If a teen is turning 16 9 days after the deadline, is there anyway to get them a HTB ISA?
    Invent a time machine?
  • Hoping someone can help me. My son applied for a HTB ISA with Nationwide a week ago but we've heard nothing since. Their website says they have high demand.

What happens if they don't process it before the deadline of 30th November? Is the deadline for account openings or applications?

    Thanks.
  • Walkerluce, my daughter opened her Nationwide Help to Buy ISA at the beginning of November, we have the initial confirmation email, but no subsequent letter with account number, etc. I'm going to pop into our local branch this week to check the position as we opened it with zero balance and I don't want to miss the chance to make her initial deposit in the first calendar month.

    Keep Smiling :)

My brother wants to open a HTB before the deadline, however he's currently travelling through Australia so I said I'll try do this for him on his behalf.

Is it possible for a family member to open it for him?

I have a HTB myself but want to open one for him. I'm 25 & he's 21. He will give me all his details to open it.

Officially the answer is no, it isn't permissible for someone else to open an account on his behalf.

Unofficially, if a family member has all the relevant details to complete an application online then there isn't much that would indicate this to the institution concerned, unless they chose to ask the new account holder to go to branch within x days to verify ID.

Is he so far off the beaten track in Australia that he won't have internet access at all this week?

If you haven't paid into it since the start of the current tax year then yes.

If you have paid into it this tax year then it's more complicated, depending on how much you've paid in and who it's with....

  • Hello
I heard rumors that if one gets a HTB ISA they can only own one property for the rest of their life... Surely that's not true?

    It's not true.
  • Hi
I opened a Help to Buy ISA with Halifax. I then bought a property with my ex, but am no longer on the deeds or paying the mortgage. We did not use my Help to Buy bonus as the property ended up costing more than the limit.
I have kept the H2B ISA open because it has a relatively good interest rate, but now I have more money that I want to save (c£40k) and can't open another ISA in this tax year.
Can I transfer the H2B ISA to another ISA with a different provider? I saw the best rate with Nationwide who let you split ISAs but I'm guessing I can't move it to a H2B ISA as I'm no longer a first time buyer?
    Thank you!
