    ^^^^ this. Drones can cause significant injuries and should be flown in the proper environment and using the correct procedures. Model aircraft clubs are by far the best way to learn how to operate these things properly.

    Many thanks for all the replies - my enquiry has been answered.
    I understand the principle about joining a flying club but don't forget my original question was about a device that is 4cm x 4cm and weighs about 30grams.

    To be fair you could probably fly something like that in doors. If you get the bug you might want to fly something bigger though which is when being in a club helps.

    Also, many clubs hire out large sports halls etc in the winter for in door flying. You might find this useful as very small aircraft are easily blown around when outside.
