Theft of BMWs by key cloning?

What can anyone tell me about BMW key cloning? Articles i read say that you have to get access to the OBD port to clone a blank key. Is there a way of intercepting a key signal if in close proximity to the owner when he /she operates the key fob? Is there a danger that if you take your car somewhere to have work done,…

but it is not just BMW cars that can be stolen in this way the same thing is happening to many other top end cars and also affects certain family cars like the fiesta and some vans such as the transit and some mercedes vans

it is BMW that have all the bad press over this but it is a far bigger problem than just theirs
