It was on Saturday night- They went bowing and for a meal ...... in Belfast.

Sat 12th Dec for me - £30 meal pp, OH and I decided to stay over in the hotel as well as we're kid free. £60 for the room. £120 + expensive drinks for a night out with people I get on ok with, but isn't my idea of a great night out. Joy of being a public sector worker is paying for your own Christmas "fun".
My church's staff team had their Christmas meal out last Thursday. Not only cheaper, but December is their busiest time of year!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Saturday 19th, which means we can get down the pub earlier, if it was a workday, we wouldn't be out until about 7pm at the earliest!Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
And now the final frame

Office Christmas party - what's one of those? And yes, I do work in an office. I don't think I've been to an office Christmas party for about 10 years
, places I've worked at just don't have them.
I thought exactly the same, except for DH. Household name bank in London = no Christmas party.
I used to get invited to his Xmas parties. Back in the mid 90's. Lavish, themed, fantastic affairs in beautiful London locations. That's also when he used to get an annual bonus which typically came in December too. All long gone.
A lot of Saturday mentions on this thread though. There is no way he/we'd give up a Saturday night for a work do. And we certainly wouldn't pay for it either. Clearly separate parts of our lives! I know some people love them though, just part of their 'social life'.0 -
Day job this Friday, black tie do, partners invited and looks very swish.
My Company, I will be taking the Company secretary out for Korean BBQ and Cocktails the week after.0 -

It certainly is ! Mainly people moaning about the food, transport, where their sitting etc0 -
The place where I work used to do an evening Christmas dinner with significant others invited. Then they stopped inviting the significant others and numbers dropped noticeably.
It's now a quick lunch and back to work.0 -
Mr CW has just told me to find a hairdresser on Saturday morning and go get my hair styled - his treat

Lovely gesture but not sure I have the time to do it, or find a hairdresser with availability
Might see if I can get nails done instead. I'm not a 'girly' when it comes to these things!
