Amend the Retaliatory Eviction & Deregulation Act to include existing tenancies!!

I am creating a petition to urgently amend Retaliatory Eviction & Deregulation Act 2015 to include existing tenancies.
When a tenant asks for genuine repairs and has fulfilled all duties as a tenant (paying all rent, keeping the dwelling in good condition), if one has been in a property for years without incident, the law should apply to existing tenancies to protect existing tenants.
I need 3 email addresses to assist with my petition. PM me if you would be happy to assist me with this.

Thank you all for your support.
What are your opinions on this matter? Either as a landlord, letting agent or tenant?

I think the legislation surrounding retaliatory evictions of tenants with AST starting before 1st October 2015 is already due to be implemented in 2018. It's just being phased into existing tenancies the same way deposit protection was.0

If this matters that much to you, OP, why don't you just create three fictitional e-mail addresses?
No one with any sense is going to give their own e-mail address to a stranger on a discussion board. Get real.0 -

1. Isn't that lying?
2. I think this matter has enough support that 3 people won't be difficult to find! It matters to a lot of us out of principle.
I also back landlords being able to evict quickly on a tenant who is 3 months into rent arrears, one month post notice with a fast track court service. The law should favour those who do what they are supposed to do.0 -

My opinion is that your petition is pointless, since the changes you want will be implemented either naturally or ultimately phased in through existing legislation.
The last thing I want is for government to waste their time dealing with a non-issue like this.0 -

In response to items 1 & 2 above:
1. You mean you've never lied before? I find that hard to believe.
2. If that were true, you wouldn't need to have created a thread, would you? Surely you know three other people in the real world?
At the moment, a landlord can petition to evict a tenant 2 months in arrears........but you want to make it three months? Surely those in arrears by two months, and, arguably, in fact, one month aren't doing what they are supposed to do?
Instead, it sounds like you simply want to make life harder for landlords. If so, why not just be honest about it...............instead of lying about it which you don't (ever) do.0 -
There is no lying. If it is already two months in arrears that is even more ideal.
I have placed it on here as it is the relevant sections and the more signatures and exposure, the better.0 -
You are wasting your time.
1) The reason you are doing this is that you wish to rely on the Act to protect you. Any change in the law would take at least a year, by which time your 12 month tenancy would be up so you could no longer rely on the Act for protection anyway
2) However many signatures you get, the law will not be changed. It has only recently been introduced, with a phased plan in place for implementation. That will not change.
Focus on battles that matter to you - this one is not going to help you even if it were successful.0 -
Good luck with your petition:
As an example of a related petition see here..
https://petition.parliament.uk/archived/petitions/61006
- it got 61 signatures...
If yours gets 10000 signatures I'll donate £5 to an agreed housing charity:
If 100,000 (then parliament has to discuss it I think) £20.
Cheers!0 -

UK parliamentary petitions seem largely to exist to divert people's fury into something that will never bother those in power: Unlike in sensible countries...
How did you get on when you raised the issue at your local constituency party meeting?
You seem to have had a lot of bad luck:
