Back again. Yes, I can delete the folder either by right clicking and selecting 'delete' in Organise, I can also hide the folder. But it keeps returning. Not had this problem before.

    " [Start] [Run] [Regedit]
    Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar
Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed below.
Data Type: REG_SZ [String Value] // Value Name: LinksFolderName
Value Data: [Set the String Value to a blank string]
Open Internet Explorer and manually delete the Links folder from Favorites Menu.
The Links folder will not be recreated.
    Exit Registry and Reboot"

  • that is very strange, i that case i anit come across this problem. almost sounds like it loses its profile everytime you restart.

1 thing u can do is if u right click in a empty space were ur links are and untick it.

    see attached.

    Inamiblis got as far as

    [Start] [Run] [Regedit]
    Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

then got lost, couldn't understand what you meant about the next bit

Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed below.
Data Type: REG_SZ [String Value] // Value Name: LinksFolderName
Value Data: [Set the String Value to a blank string]
Open Internet Explorer and manually delete the Links folder from Favorites Menu.
The Links folder will not be recreated.

You need to right click and modify REG_SZ [String Value] // Value Name: LinksFolderName
 Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:

OK, you're at that registry key?
In the right hand panel is there something called 'LinksFolderName'?
If so double click on that and delete the 'ValueData' (text that should be highlighted).
If there isnt something there called 'LinksFolderName' then you need to right click and create it.
Right click -> New -> String Value
Name the value 'LinksFolderName' without the quotes.

Finally (do this regardless of which step you had to do previously) open internet explorer and delete the Links folder from your fav's menu (right click delete).

Of course the easy solution to this would be to use firefox, which many people (including me) think is better and more secure.
If you want to have a play around with firefox then the website for downloading is https://www.getfirefox.com

Hello and thanks very much for info.

    At this point -

"If so double click on that and delete the 'ValueData' (text that should be highlighted).!"

Opened a little dialogue box which stated 'Links'. I deleted that as it seemed to fit.

Have also deleted Links folder in Favourites list at left of screen.

Hope I did right, and thanks everyone for being really helpful. Will let you know how I get on, whether that Links folder is banished for good.

Now, you were saying about firefox ...;)

    Good luck!
There was no need to delete that last bit
Have also deleted Links folder in Favourites list at left of screen.
so im hoping this wont affect anything important! Would imagine you'll be fine though, I cant find it in my registry.

Firefox is a web browser (just as internet explorer is). It's made by a company called mozillia and is becoming more and more popular on the internet.

It's main advantage is that it is more secure than internet explorer, helping to prevent spyware/badware/adware etc but it also tends to be more advanced than internet explorer (for example it was using popup blockers and tabs before internet explorer was) on top of all this they've made it wonderfully easy to use and it's free!
When you first run it, it can import your favourites/history etc from internet explorer.

If you have any problems with it (which i doubt, but you may) lots of people on these boards will be using it and im sure very willing to help.

I'd give it a go - if you decide you dont like it then you can always uninstall it and go back to using internet explorer.

Thanks once again inamabilis. Will give Firefox some serious thought. I know many people use it; I suppose I'm used to Internet Explorer but will definitely consider Firefox as an alternative browser.

    Cheers
