Malarone tablets @tesco

For anyone needing malaria protection and was thinking of getting Malarone - I've just found out that it has come off licence and there is a generic drug available using EXACTLY the same ingredients.
Better still, don't get a private prescription(£10.50) from your GP,just go to Tesco Pharmacy and you can get them for £1.39 each. Should you use a Private script, you will pay pay a lot more-around £2.60 per tab!! Don't understand why this is but Hey-Ho! You can also get them online for £1.00 per tab.

They're even cheaper at Asda ;)
  • Can you point me in the direction of where to get them for £1 online. . . .I thought I'd been getting a good price, but not been as cheap as that! I'm regularly in malarial zones, so this would be very helpful.

    Thanks in advance. . . .
  • Travelpharm.com advertise them for .99p each, but I have no experience of buying online.

I don't see how Tesco are dishing them out without a prescription.

You have a consultation with the pharmacist who can them prescribe them to you (if any issues flag up, then they will refer you to your doctor). We did just this a few weeks ago at Asda.

Know this was talked about in a previous thread. Simple Online Pharmacy do them for less than £1 each if you are buying anything over a one week course.

Currently, only 9 months later £29.99 for 16 tablets for a one week course. Anybody found cheaper for an actual purchase other than tesco/asda please, for the malarone clone not GSK product, thanks
  • just a quick update (in case anyone is looking) - Just bought Branded Malarone from Asda Pharmacy (after a consultation with the pharmacist) for £1.25 each. The Lady said that as of a couple of days ago the branded is cheaper than generic!!

Local Tesco had generics at £1.39, but I could never come in when the correct pharmacist was in.
  • I went to Tesco today after reading this post. I had got a prescription from my doctor, but asked at the pharmacy. Malarone prescription approx £57.00 The Generic tablets about £27 just got to go
    back for the consultation
