Virgin media Bill sharp increase from february

Received a letter trough the post, informing my current £21.99 Virgin Phone/Broadband service will increase by £3.49 a month with effect from February.
I've been reading a few posts, but £3.45 is a hell of an increase. About 15% versus 5% I read about.
What are my rights? I signed in for a contract of 21.99 for 12 months. Should i be better calling them and haggling? I'm happy with the broadband service otherwise (although the phone is unusable with 3 or 4 spam calls a day since install. Funny since I never gave my fixed line number to anyone lol)

You can phone up to cancel within 30 days of receiving the letter. You may or may not get a credit to get you to stay.although the phone is unusable with 3 or 4 spam calls a day since install.
Annoying as it may be it hardly renders the phone unusable. Buy a call blocker or don't answer.0 -
Presumably, the number is recycled having previously been in use elsewhere.cts_casemod wrote: »... although the phone is unusable with 3 or 4 spam calls a day since install.
You could request a new number (with no guarantee that the next one is any better) or shell out for a call-blocker based on trueCall technology.0 -

Thanks for the advice. Ill ring them up tomorrow.
It is recycled for sure. I get some messages of a clinic confirming an appointment from time to time.
I don't think i can use a call blocker as caller ID is not activated (another reason for the uselessness) I would have to pay extra for that, so I simply don't use it. I get better value from my VOIP and mobile lines anyway, but its annoying I bough a cordless phone just to have it unplugged. Perhaps I'll complain about this too. Nothing to loose.0 -
You didn't sign a contract for £21.99 for 12 months. You signed a contract with no fixed price for a minimum term of 12m. Telcoms contracts are not fixed price, they can increase the day after your contract commences. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I love it when the price goes up mid contract, more quidco when switching0

Has anybody ever haggled with Virgin Media before?
We only have internet with them. Our bill also just gone up from £28 to £31.
We get 50MB broadband which is good, but is that pricey?0 -

The increase letter says in fine print that if the default value increases during the initial 12 months period (or whatever the minimum contract period is) Virgin media will honor it. Apparently they do, but ONLY if asked for.Has anybody ever haggled with Virgin Media before?

Have you got broadband only or phone + broadband? If the later, I suggest you give them a call.
Ive called them today and they added a credit to my account to make it up for the increase. While at it I also taken the suggestion to ask for a new phone number. Fingers crossed.0 -
I only have broadband with them. I dont have a phoneline as I never use it.0

I phoned Virgin asking to terminate my connection (not in contract) after being told of price rise from £28.50 to £31 for Broadband only and was offered a contract for £15 a month, same speed and usage cap 30G. It is definitely worth phoning them.0

So, I've received the £3.49 increase letter; it represents a 12.9% increase on my current BB £27.04/month.
Apparently it's all great though, because I'll go from 100 to 150 Mbps between April & June next year!0
