Breakdown company relay services Greenflag/AA

Options
So I do a lot of travel and I worry about breaking down. As I need to be at my destinations at specific times And if the guy can't fix it at the roadside I would need taking to my destination using their relay services.

Both Greenflag and The AA offer this. I just need to know which is better? Sometimes I may need to be taken quite far so that factors into it a little.

Any help is appreciated

You do realise why it is called a relay service?

If you have long way to go, you are unlikely to be taken there in one hit.

When I was with Greenflag on recovery only cover the recovery vehicle took you to your destination, I expect if the recovery driver were near the end of his driving hours another driver would take over the same recovery vehicle.

With the AA the recovery vehicle and driver are changed when it reaches the end of its area which means delays are inevitable, especially when we broke down in Torquay and had to return to Durham.

If you worry about breakdowns maybe you need a better car.
Bit like most forms of insurance, you never know when you may need it.

The AA actually call it "Relay" and as mentioned it is like a relay race being passed from one truck to another as the drivers are either out of time or out of region. We we brought home from Dover to Portsmouth about 140 miles and had 3 different trucks. Makes a nice break for the loo/ciggy or whatever.

Having said that it was a much better option than being stranded in Dover at 2am on a Sunday morning.

We've been with both. Can't fault neither.

AA have a lot of their own vehicles and they don't go out of their region, we got towed back from Cardiff to Cornwall and were left waiting at Exeter services for the new truck and driver for best part of an hour,

Green flag use a lot of independent garages, never had a problem and the same truck moved us from Birmingham to Cornwall.

As far as waiting times, AA were typically around 45 mins, green flag varying from 15 mins to an hour.

Price wise green flag were around 25% of the price of the AA.

One to avoid though was Brittania Rescue, they took 4 hours to attend when my husbands car wouldn't start in a supermarket car park around 2 years ago,

My dad was with the AA many years ago and suffered the relay option.

With them only taking him part of the way and then having to wait for another vehicle. I think he was unlucky and just happened to be in an area where several changes were required. He was not in a good mood when he finally got home.

Why not just go with RAC? That's not relay. Xxx

I can only go by my experience, and Green Flag is streets ahead of the AA. Far cheaper too.
