Black Friday

Load of bullsh!t.

Take last year for example, ASDA selling cheapo Polaroid and Luxor TVs that had been shipped in especially for Black Friday. Where were the discounts on the LGs and the Samsungs? Thats right... there wasn't any discounts!

  • I am not technically minded and know nothing really about brands or specs on TVs but Currys had a few Samsung TVs heavily discounted (although I wouldn't know if they were worth the original price to start with).

I did venture out yesterday and it wasn't very busy at all though.
  • Agreed.
I bought a Samsung fridge freezer from AO.com on Black Friday. It was reduced by 5% in the morning but by lunchtime the price had gone back up to what it was before.
Hardly the massive saving they advertise.

A sale that's actually for the benefit of the store and doesn't give away quality stuff for cheap prices....whatever next!

Same with everything you buy - forget what the sale price is, and what % is off (nobody can actually sell stuff for full price if they sell it for 70% off), you need to work out the best way to get the stuff you want, and don't let shops dictate to you what you should buy.

Sales-I don't particularly need them , but if I wanted a bargain it's buyer beware as always.

the shops haven't gotten smarter with their marketing strategies for black Friday but customers have also wised up, and haven't gone crazy.

I think black Friday is a flash in the pan for the UK.

We can't match the US, especially when places like Harrods refuse point blank.

Local ASDA did not participate, seems they actually lost business last year as a lot of genuine shoppers didnt bother with the madeness and queue's so stayed away.

I received a few emails from various companies and the discounts were small and the prices went up and down like yoyo's.

ECP had car headlamp bulbs on special which just happened to be the same everyday price that everyone else sells them for.

It's not really that great in the US either.

The companies will advertise a few big ticket items with massive discounts but there will be one or two available in each store. After that it's usually a small discount at best (and it's usually the tat they can't get rid of.)

Why have you even posted this? It's obvious! Do you really think Samsung & LG would have agreed to wholesale discounts on their products for retailers to sell cheap just because it's black Friday!

I think we're just more cynical than they are in the US.

People here seem to have quickly realised that there are not the masses of bargains the overexcited journalists have been touting, and not bothered stirring themselves much past their keyboards.

I got a couple of modest deals via emails of the xx% of everything variety.

Just things I was going to buy in the next couple of weeks, anyway.
