How to fix/change over iPhone?
Hi all,
My girlfriend dropped her iphone and smashed the screen. Luckily she was due a new phone soon after becuase shes on contract.
So now we have a redundant iphone with a cracked screen. I have an old HTC and I want to know if its possible for me to 'take ownership' of her phone (and get the screen fixed obviously).
Im not on contract (Im on PAYG) and on a different network.
So how would I go about taking ownership and is this even possible? I presume my girlfriend would need to be with me in the shop to prove that its not a stolen phone or something.
Any advice muchly appreciated!
Thanks

I don't think its a complicated as you think.
First thing to find is:
1) Cost of screen replacement (or even do it yourself?)
2) Cost of unlocking the phone for your network sim to work0 -
Hi,
it's no different than buying a smashed up phone from ebay.0 -
Ah - this sounds like good news!
It will cost about £40 to replace the screen and I know a shop that does that. So thats all sorted.
Then - as you say - I need to unlock the phone:
1) Is that legal?
2) How do we prove the phone was my girlfriend - and thats shes giving it to me? (Or maybe she doesnt need to becuase she has her new phone and hasnt reported it stolen?)
3) Where would I get this done? Im on PAYG with vodafone, so would I take it to a vodafone shop?0 -
Hi,
as the phone is still your girlfriends, it will be easier if she initiates the unlock, then gives phone to you.
Edit: she may get it done free when out of contract.0 -
Or change to PAYG on the same network. But I concur, the girlfriend just needs to request an unlock, probably free and gives more flexibility in the future.0

How would she "request an unlock"?0 -
Hi,
contact her provider.0 -
Great - thanks for your help guys - this is certainly easier than I thought!

Google unlock and the provider. Most will have a form to fill in online...0

Hi, sorry to hijack your thread, but my son has dropped his iphone and smashed the screen (yesterday!) and was wondering about the cheap place you mention to repair it. Thanks very much in advance for your reply
