Thanks southcoascorgi, your post says it all, I think i now know which one i am going to go for, not a reputed name but if the boiler works great then who cares, any particular recommendations as looking for a 28kw.0

Like southcoastrgi, I also recommend Intergas. I have one in my house. Unfortunately, most people have never heard of them so tend to dismiss them. Shame because they really are a terrific bit of kit.
Everyone has heard of Worcester especially as British Gash pump them out like no tomorrow. This has the effect of making people assume that they are the best you can get. Personally I would never fit one as 90% of my breakdown work is on worcesters. Poorly designed plastic and horrible and expensive to work on. When you have to spend £30 on parts just to correctly service it, you know youre being ripped off.
For a good, reliable, easy to use boiler with a great warranty, you wont go far wrong with Baxi Duotec or Platinum. Easy to install, service and use and I have never known Baxi to try and wriggle out of a warranty issue. I can honestly say that I have never had a problem with one and have installed approximately 100 of them.
The installation of a boiler is as, if not more, important than the make. Any installation should be on a clean system, pipework correctly installed and sized, system filter, good chemicals, good reliable controls, good radiators, valves and balancing and all properly commissioned and certified. All of which will cost.0 -
Not meaning to hijack this thread but just out of curiosity, going through a lot of thread on replacing boiler and associated cost, I am seeing a lot of gas professionals like southcoastcorgi who deal with boilers on a regular basis prefer atag or intergas, I am just a layman and as I am myself looking to replace a blown up boiler and hanging between intergas and vaillant, when you call someone home they always say go for vaillant as its the best, but I think you guys are experts at what you do and would not recommend a half decent product as you are not making anything out of it, then why people who come to do survey mostly suggest vaillant if we are looking for a good boiler.
I am not comparing anyone here but as a layman just asking and looking for info.
I am IT person so no knowledge of it what so ever but if you come to me and ask which laptop i should buy I will tell you lets say dell as I have worked with them for 20 years and know it inside out but if you go to a shop they might say toshiba.
I have to spend money but i want to spend it on something which is good and I am sure you guys know what you are talking about.
You hear good and bad about all boilers go with what offers the longest warranty ( that will mean yearly service etc) Then one that manufacture offers set price repairs ? Most of the time they will replace nearly all components for price which independent gas safe guys just wouldn’t / couldn’t do for the price? if you do this makes pretty irrelevant? You have the advantage of knowing exactly what costs regard boiler itself will be years in advance ?
Most often its the installer not the appliance that you really need to vet? Even the best boiler fitted incorrectly won't work? Equals unhappy client but that's not the products fault.more installers ?0 -
I paid about £1700 for a similar job two years ago in London
(£900 the boiler, £800 the rest)0 -
I paid just under £1,900 for a very very similar job last month (even old boiler and 15mm to 22mm upgrade is the same).
Only difference is that was for the 30i boiler, not the 25i.
