When will I recieve my first ESA payment?

Hello there everyone.

I want to know if possible when I will recieve my first ESA Payment perhaps?

I applied on 23/11/2015 and went into Job Centre and had sick note sent off on 24/11/2015, anyone know when I'm likely to receive my first payment? I'm totally new to all this so it's generally i don't have much knowledge on any of this at all.

I just want to know as I signed off JSA Recently and wanna know how long I'm going to have to make the last payment from them last till I get my first ESA payment, for all I k ow it could be really soon and I'm just worrying because I wouldn't want to run out of food or anything.

Also when I get my first payment, will ESA be paid weekly or Fortnightly?

ESA is paid fortnightly, The first 7 days of ESA aren't paid, And normally your asked to get a sick note for after the 7 days.

If you only applied on Monday there is a chance they are still waiting on your application then it has to get processed.

Probably looking at about 2/3 weeks in my opinion.
  • I'd be asked to get a sick note after 7 days?
Why would this be? Would my doctor even allow such a thing considering it would be so soon for me after getting my first sick note though?

If the one you provided covers you for more than a week, they will be able to process it as such.
  • I applied on the Thursday and had first payment following Friday.
  • The note I provided was to cover me for 4 weeks, so I am assuming that I don't have to send another yet?

The next time I was planning to send another note off would be around when my original note would have one week left, considering it is close to Christmas I wouldn't want any delays in delays.

Can anyone else confirm if you get ESA in 2-3 weeks or the week after?

You'll only need to send another sick/fit note when your other is about to run out. Payments will depend on how quickly they process your claim, no one can really tell you this. Also you said you've only just had a payment from JSA so i would think it would be 2 weeks after this. ESA is paid every 2 weeks the same as JSA. If you need any more info about payment dates then leave it at least 1 week then ring them and ask when your payments are going to be.

I believe that so long as the person was claiming JSA within the previous three months then there are no waiting days for ESA - the waiting days will have been served on JSA. It also applies in reverse (ESA to JSA).

I'm not 100% sure if this applies to income related claims only or to either type of ESA (and similarly JSA).

As you are waiting for a first payment you can ask for a short term benefit advance. You would have to show you are in financial need.

Your payment day for ESA (and other benefits) is dependant on the last 2 digits of your National Insurance number. 00 - 19 is Monday pay day, 20-39 Tuesday etc. The 2 weekly cycle is based on odd and even numbers but without the benefit calendar, and the 2 digits of your NI number, it's not possible to say exactly when you will get paid.
Worst case would be 3 weeks after the start date of the claim, assuming no backlog in processing. Unfortunately I understand that some ESA offices are having real problems with workload at the moment.
  • I have an update on my claim...sort of that sort of worries me in a sense.

I've recieved I assume the standard questionnaire thing I must fill in, on one page it's asking me for some form of things they'd like to see such as treatment plans, reports from places/people such as GP, Therapists etc, but I don't have anything like that what they are asking for, as although I've had to deal with this problem for some time about 4 months now which is both anxiety and depression, I have nothing to detail any reports or treatments as such as I've only just started admitting I have this problem to other medical people besides either of my GP's by going to a local mental health unit to look for help with my issue a little while ago, they did their Assesment and have basically referred me to another place where they believe they'll be able to help me with whatever treatment they feel is best suited to me, an I know that I won't get the call for that till about early January based on the waiting times they stated when I was told I was accepted for the referral.

I'm assuming by not providing anything that I don't have means they'll ask me to go to a Wprk Capability Assesment I believe they are called? this will not affect my ESA claim in any way such as delays will it?

I want to make sure I fill this form in correctly as I can first time round so there isn't any issues.
