    As said above, usually record offices and some reference libraries have it accessible on site. It's also free at The National Archives in Kew - as are the other censuses and pre 1848 wills, plus loads of other useful stuff. If you are really keen on family history it's also worth a trip to the Society of Genealogists. There's a fee but the electronic and non electronic resources plus quality of advice and courses are excellent.
