Could you get a jeweller to put a shiny new 10p into a setting to wear as a pendant?

Or even just get a hole drilled in one, put a link through it and get her a nice chain?

Love the story, had something similar with my Dad. xx

I love that idea! Absolutely lovely.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
  • B&M had some of their garden stuff reduced to 10p, including a wind chime. I bought a few bits a few weeks ago, so they have probably gone by now. I've got a spare windchime though, with a smiling snail on the top. If you want to have it, PM me your address and I'll pop it in the post (I understand if you prefer not to disclose your address though).

You could put a picture of Grandad in a photo frame and make a border with 10p pieces.

I think the pendant idea is the best on the thread, though. Brilliant idea Serendipitious!
  • What a beautiful, thoughtful gift idea. I am sure your DD will love it, and appreciate the sentiment.

Not a 10p gift as such, but what about gluing 10pp coins to a cheap wooden photo frame, and popping in a photo of her & grandad?

Also, I second charity shop hunting, books, little trinkets etc can be picked up for 10p at times.

You can get those carton kids cup drinks for 10p, space raider crisps, haribo little bags.

And could you get a 10p coin made into a pendent for a necklace? Dh used a tile drill bit to make a whole in a £1 coin which I put onto a keyring to use as my trolly coin ;-)
It's not about getting what you want, It's about wanting what you get.
  • if you like the jewellery idea, search "the hairy growler" he`s got an online shop and on facebook, he makes the most amazing jewellery from old money, maybe he could use an old 10p with a significant year date, and in a particular design, he can make them into rabbits, stars, etc check him out! also, i have a saving tube thing that i save 20p in (up to £25) i wonder if you could do something so she could save 10p`s and save up for a trip or something?
One day I will live in a cabin in the woods
  • We once bought a trick 10 pence piece from our local joke shop. It had 2 heads on it, perfect for playing heads or tails. Cost a few pounds though, but its still a 10p.

I like the idea of 10p jewellery, but you may get done for treason if the coin is still in monetary circulation, wow, who knew. You may get round this by using an old 10p from the year grandad was born.
Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.

And what about those crush a penny machines? Are they illegal?

edit: No. The Coinage Offences Act 1936 made it an offence. The Forgery and Counterfeiting Act 1981 repealed the offence.

    Not true.

Old coins would be sixpence and then shilling. There wasn't a 10 pence coin.

A florin (2 shillings) is equivalent to 10 new pence.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
