....you've got me thinking about this now and I'm probably just going to keep adding to a post so here goes...

    a 10p bag for life.

probably need to be bought as a bumper pack but good if you use them anyway....a tea light.

Slightly off the 10p topic but what about some seeds to grow a plant/fruit or vegetable that grandad liked...if you have a local garden centre they may have bulk seeds that they can sell just a few or even buy one daffodil bulb or crocus bulb or something like that.....

Paperclips...again something that might need to be bought in bulk but a few coloured ones are always useful for college work etc

If you have an old fashioned sweet shop that are quite popular now how about 1 mint humbug or whatever GD's favourite sweet was.

74Jax I think its a really lovely idea and absolutely proves the point that for a gift to be really special in its thought and meaning cost has nothing to do with it.

I saw a few bits of stationery eg pencil sharpeners and single pencils reduced to 10p in my local Wilco a few days ago so might be somewhere else to have a look.

    I hope she loves it.
I really think she will and so and looking everywhere for 10p items. She had a lovely bond with him which I know I can't replace but hopefully I can make her first Christmas without him not too bad.

These are fantastic ideas! I love the clementine idea too! Thanks you.

My Dad, my DD's Grandad, sadly has recently died. They had this weird thing between that whenever we visited he gave her some 10ps, it became a running joke between the pair of them. When he died she placed a 10p in his suit pocket - to be a final 10p between the two of them and something very personal to just them.

For Christmas, I just thought it would be nice for her to have a small bag of 10p items, I know I can't replace her Grandad, and didn't want to give lots of 10ps as that was between just them two, but I thought lots of things costing 10p might be a nice touch and I think she'd love it too.

These are all great ideas. Thanks you all so much.

Oh my goodness, this almost made me cry. Such a lovely idea. My nan used to ask for a lavender candle every year for her birthday and for Christmas, so the first Christmas we had without her I bought everybody in the family a lavender candle which they all then lit in the evening. It was just a lovely way of remembering her and I know your daughter will appreciate this thoughtful gift :)

    Have you tried Amazon?

How about a Freddo not sure of it's price though last time I had one it was 10p. However, put what you get in a bag for life, they're 10p in most places.
Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.
  • a button from a haberdashers that could be sewn on to a blankie (or teddy, or whatever) to remind her of her Grandad...?

She's 17, so maybe not the blankie but I like the idea of a 10p button so going o look for one of those, I have such a varied shopping list for the weekend now :)

Space Raiders pickled onion crisps are still 10p, as well as Refresher chewbars.

if you have a haberdashery shop or local market that sells ribbon 10p should get you a small piece...taking the button idea one step further how about making a christmas decoration by threading a fine piece of ribbon through the button holes so it could be hung on the tree...

you could also think of doing this with one of grandads recycled buttons if you still have access to some of his clothes to make the decoration more personal.

  • Could you get a jeweller to put a shiny new 10p into a setting to wear as a pendant?

Or even just get a hole drilled in one, put a link through it and get her a nice chain?

Love the story, had something similar with my Dad. xx
