Unwanted voice mail forcing a search for a new contract

I've got a Carphone Warehouse Fresh Free account and have recently been getting a series of voicemail messages (which all sound like someone walking on gravel) but the number is always withheld. Each time I retrieve a voicemail it costs me 10p.
CW say they can't do anything but they could give me a new sim card with a new contract which will, after the promotion period, cost me 50% more! Obviously I'd be a fool to let them up my costs by 50% and naturally I don't want to have to ignore all voicemail. Therefore I've decided to kiss Carphone Warehouse goodbye and look for an alternative contract. I am a low user and don't want to sign up for a monthly contract. What is the best contract for me to go for?

How about turning off your voicemail?

Thanks for the reply but I had already thought of that. The trouble is I would then have to tell everyone that is important to us to never ever leave voicemail and that means that if there is some emergency in the future then there could be unnecessary delay in finding out if all our relatives or friends could do is keep on phoning and hoping we will pick up.
Anyone know the best low user contract out there?

I have heard the 'walking on gravel' many times aswell, but it's not a voicemail, rather there is an actual connection. This happens sometimes when i call a friend, vice versa. Im on T-mobile and the other person on O2. Cost me a few seconds of my call time, each time this happens. You're in worser luck I guess.

With regards to getting a contract phone, there is a lot of topics on cashback contracts on the forum, take a look around. I took out a contract phone with One Stop Phone Shop, will get another one next week.
