Did you or did you not arrange postal re-direction?? Please??
I've scr*w*d up as a landlord: I've ended up with a court case over council tax: You can choose to feel as-you-wish about it or not, your choice, but I'm simply, calmly & politely, asking you a question - did you arrange a postal re-direction? : If that question is acceptable from someone as lowly as me, that is.0 -
Thanks for the correction CIS.0

Thanks for the correction CIS.
It's the problem of having two system's to do essentially the same thing - confuses everybody.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
CIS and others thanks for the really helpful advice. I will look into getting a correction regarding the clearly incorrect address used.
The Artful Dodger, I don't prejudge you as being lowly (like you did about me being lazy) although from your comments I think you speak volumes for yourself! In answer to your question! I never lived at the property so did not require postal re-direction. The only bill sent there was council tax and I advised the council of my primary address, I even have a previous letter from the tax office in the same council about the same property....0 -

Council tax is charged to the property, not the person. So regardless of what address you have its your responsibility to pay it.
Whilst I sympathise with you, you knew there were 2 weeks worth due.
U didn't answer regarding notice to go into the property.0 -

Ah, attention to detail: So key to success as a landlord - and in so much of life. There are more that 10 taxes a landlord may pay, if you don't concentrate you'll end up paying too much on some and perhaps get fined and/or court costs: Not to mention getting locked up, a fairly unique risk of not performing one's civic duty over council tax..
https://www.gov.uk/council-tax-arrearsYou can be sent to prison for up to 3 months if the court decides you don’t have a good reason to not pay your Council Tax and you refuse to do so
Whenever I get a change of occupants I email (keep copies!) the utility company(s) and the council tax guys plus anyone else relevant: 'taint hard, kinda obvious really to look after one's interests and those of others.... and if there are later "difficulties" you can produce the email & point out it was their error not yours.
Come on, wake up at the back of the class!!0 -
Consider setting up a direct debit to pay your council tax, unless your tenants are students"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Council tax is dealt with by magistrates court NOT County court so no ccj and won't affect credit record. In magistrates court they would have been granted liability order which leads on to enforcement ie bailiffs, attachment of earnings etc.

If you genuinely gave your new address to the council, with a clear message that all correspondence to go from their to your new address, then target your anger towards them and take it with them.
What I don't get if your frustration with your tenant. It is wrong that he should dictated to forward your mail to you, it is nothing to do with being responsible looking after the property, this is expecting them to do you a favour because you don't want to use royal mail. How would you feel if he told you that they had decided to use your address for his mail and expect you to forward everything to them in a promptly manner because you're their landlord and that's what you should do?0
