Malaria tablets

Anyone used Dr Fox for them?
https://www.doctorfox.co.uk/medicine-prices.html

Seems a lot cheaper than elsewhere, but I am aware that there is usually a reason for that.

Anyone care to recommend anywhere else?

I have used https://www.knowmalaria.com . Found them knowledgeable and helpful and reasonably priced.

I use asda who are very cheap, I get doxy as anything else makes me vomit almost constantly. They do do generic malarone which I think was about £1 per tablet.

I buy two doxy tablets and get the rest in country, my doxy in malaysia was 14p a tablet.
  • I always use Lariam as they're a once a week medication. I shop around but found sainsburys to be the cheapest where I lived.

Do be aware that some people suffer serious side effects from using Lariam. I'm glad that it works for you, but don't recommend it to people you don't know.

The best advice has to be: ask your doctor what kind of anti-malarial you need before you begin comparing prices.

I hope you know that there are many different kinds of anti-malarial table, with vast price differences. Doxy is so cheap that I just buy them from my local chemist: any cost saving from shopping around would be so small that the effort of finding the best price would not be justified. However, Doxy is not suitable for people who expect to spend a lot of time in the sun.

Very few people need to avoid the sun while taking doxy, we all take it and have never had a problem. If we avoided all malaria medication that had the possibility of side effects, we wouldn't take any!

Make an appointment with your GP Travel Clinic 6 to 8 weeks before you travel.
  • Thank you all for your replies.

We have been to the 'travel clinic' at our GP and following the advice received decided to opt for Malarone which for a two week trip (23 tablets each plus my GP knows how to charge for a private prescription) works out as quite the expensive.

I saw that the Dr Fox site works out as considerable cheaper for generic Malarone but as no one seems to have used them I will probably end up using Asda.
