I apologise if it came across as vindictive, and having previously lived in a great house at below market rent with a good relationship with my LL, I appreciate your business model.

But "nobody touch landlords or the puppy gets it" arguments get quite tiresome.

    Don't worry I wasn't offended.

I actually missed off something very important from my post, and that is, that if tenants know that they are on a good deal they tend to be understanding if things go wrong. Which as hard as you try to avoid problems, things do go wrong occasionally (i.e. a tradesman not turning up when they have waited in etc.). Having a hassle free life is sometimes more important than maximising your income, the older I get, the more I lean that way.

Chuck Norris. In my profession I deal with a vast number of landlords and see all financial details and yes most do not pay the right amount of tax. I stand by that.

I still don't buy it, and if you are an accountant (which I think is unlikely) more shame on you, for being part of it. You might be surprised but I probably despise tax cheaters more than you, the more they cheat, the more tax I have to pay.

No I am not an accountant but my father is a chartered accountant and I offer a service that landlords need. I know every trick in the book!

Tell me if BTL landlords didn't exist what value and service do you provide that the public would miss?
What jobs and wealth do you create?

I'm also a university lecturer (and a chartered quantity surveyor) if I didn't exist who would lecture in my place, you? I have also ran 2 other businesses where I employed people too. Why not judge me overall, rather than just one small part of what I am? My wife is also a landlord, but she is an actuary too.

Good point, I missed that one. He is an accessory after the fact (at best).

Well done you. What made you go into the murky unethical business that is doing loads of harm to the country and destroying young peoples dreams of something simple like owning their own property?

Greed by any chance? You are obviously an intelligent man and have done very well for yourself and hats off to you with regards to your other professions.

Not my place to report them. Politics and all that. I wouldn't want to jeopardise my profession. Nothing stopping me having an opinion though.

That sounds very dodgy, and from what you have previously said leads to not paying the correct amount of tax, so also illegal, and you have the cheek to criticise ALL landlords! Including the decent ones.

It is everybody's place to report them! There is nothing murky about what I do, some of my previous tenants have become friends, I was an usher at one of my previous tenant's weddings, and I previously loaned her the deposit for her first flat (which she moved into out of one of my properties) and subsequently loaned her and her husband £20k (interest free) to buy a house.

I should make myself clear that I know a lot of tax avoiders not tax evasion. For me both are serious, That's me giving the moral high ground though.

With regards to tax avoidance I know every trick in the book.
