..I just phoned up the pension service with some basic info (NI no. DOB / employer and address), and they said they would post a statement through for me in about 8 working days...seems like a simpler option to me...? (Tried the beta service and did not get anywhere..probably because i don't have a photo license..)
I think you can get some more information from the system that is not on the paper based letters. For those that can get on, they will have the info instantly also.
So it is a better option to get online for those who can.0 -
I first tried the Post Office verification for myself and goodlady and got cannot verify.
Lived at address for loads of years still paying PAYE and have bank accounts, passports etc.
The went on to Experion and we have both had Experion accounts in the past.
Again in both cases again got cannot veritify.
We both have paper statements so it's not an issue.0 -
So my experience was bad (with a windows phone I couldn't use the App on my smart phone method) and I got limited verification from ID and Post Office
CAUTION: until now I have applied for many many credit cards (I know) partly through need, then through stoozing and then through rewards. I have never ever been asked for further identification. However 1 month after trying and failing to verify I applied for the AA fuel discount card 4% = so a £20 a month saving for me. The AA asked me for certified identity documents (ie not just send my passport, but get an "official" to sign it).
I don't believe this was a coincidence - namely I specifically believe that applying for this service and not passing through to verified has left me in a WORSE position than if I hadn't bothered.
Does anyone know one way or the other if this is true? And if so what to do about it apart from being outragedI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

That is my area of doubt. The AA quoted AML and KYC but I know they have been in place for decades.
I have raised a query on the verify blog - will see what, if anything, I get back
I am not a lunatic (well not much) but I think it behoves us all to be a little cautious about this information now (some 30 years after Sir Humphrey Appleby started worrying us all) that this is all getting a bit realI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

The main concern for me is that there is going to be a point where people such as me are genuinely not going to be able to prove our identities to the satisfaction of the bureaucrats. As I don't possess either a driving licence or passport, I've not been able to even get as far as you have on this service - i was thrown out at the first page.0 -

Well probably better to fail early.
My paranoia is that rather than being of unknown status I am now known as a potential difficult caseI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

I'm not quite sure why you think there is a connection to be honest. Why do you think there is?
Personally, I think not and a failed verification will not have changed any existing info on any of the verification systems.
To put your mind at rest a little, I play the credit card stoozing game - pretty much as a hobby to be honest. I did not get onto the pensions system as I could not verify either. I have since applied for the 22 month no BT fee AA credit card and was turned down. Ten minutes later I applied for the new Halifax 23 month no BT fee, and was accepted with a higher credit limit than I had asked for!!
I play the bank switching game also, so I have a number of searches on my file so I'm guessing that's why AA card turned me down - naught to do with my failed verify which was a couple of weeks ago.0 -
I don't really believe in coincidences
20 years never having to verify beyond the application form
-- one failed verify with the new beta service
---- next application rejected
Seriously - I am as boring as it gets - everything in my life has been the same for 20 years - from a high level who am I point of view. same job, same house, same partner - why can't they verify me?I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

It could be that something has happened on your credit record which has caused both the gov.uk verification to fail and the credit application, that the gov.uk service was tripped over by the same thing but did not cause it.
Maybe you need to get a copy of your credit record - from experian?0
