I do hope they provide that level of information in the post 2016 summary. I doubt it though as, in line with most HMG information, it will probably be dumbed down to the lowest level so as not to confuse the easily confused but will not give enough information for many to make an informed decision about additional contributions.

Well I'd hope that getting online would make a deal more information accessible to help make decisions as well as not having to wait several weeks for something in the post.

However, getting online then becomes the challenge :D

I have tried to get online but failed the questions - partly a problem of having several bank accounts etc.

Try Post Office verification. I found it very simple.

I have tried but I don't have a passport currently. I do click the no passport radio button but it still want's a passport id!!!

I think I tried Experian previously and got stuck on the credit balance questions as I have a number of cards and accounts.

I do have a passport but it said I couldn't use the PO, only Experian.
  • So, result when the site eventually worked was (41 years contributions, some years opt out)

"If you continue to contribute until 2021,
    forecast amount will be £151pw

Amount based on contributions up to 2015: £210 pw

If you continue to contribute until 2021: £151pw"

So, is that badly worded, wrong, or am I misunderstanding?

    Thanks

    That looks a bit odd.

It looks like your starting amount is calculated as

    OLD SCHEME
    Basic state pension of 30/30 x 115.95 = 115.95
    plus additional pension of £94.05
    Total: £210pw

    NEW SCHEME
    35/35 x 151.25 = 151.25
    less rebate derived amount
    Total: something less than £151.25

So starting amount is higher of these which is £210pw.

For the £210pw to be correct you must have quite a lot of contracted-in years and have been on a fairly good salary for a number of years. Does that sound right?

If the £210pw is correct then it is above the single tier amount.

This means that you cannot earn further state pension for qualifying years after 6th April 2016.

However you get to keep the £210pw amount in today's terms. The first £151.25pw is currently increased each year with the triple lock (higher of prices, earnings and 2.5%) and the balance of £58.75pw increases before and after SPA with CPI price inflation.

If the £210pw based on contributons up to 2015 is right then the figure of £151pw if you continue up to 2021 is wrong and should say £210pw instead.

I suggest you use the help facility once you've logged in, to query the figures and let us know how you get on.
    I came, I saw, I melted
  • OK thanks, yes a mistake somewhere then (either calculated 'old scheme' or 'starting amount')

Yes. I'm not clear why it allows you to go to the PO etc which requests passport validation when I actually tell it at the beginning that I do not have a passport.

I retried the Experian option but got stumped when trying to put in a new password from the forgotten password link. I get the verification email ok and put that in and then the new password but just keep getting the error messages must be 8 characters, one number, one upper case etc. I definitely have tried a few different passwords complying with their policy but it won't accept.

Not sure if they are having a problem at their end but at the moment it is not accepting any new password, so can't proceed any further. I'm not likely to get through the Experian verification in any event as I have too many bank accounts and credit cards to know the exact balances etc.

To be fair, it is a beta system at the moment so there will be anomalies. Does anyone know if there is any other way of getting verified e.g. contacting them and getting a verification code in the post?

..I just phoned up the pension service with some basic info (NI no. DOB / employer and address), and they said they would post a statement through for me in about 8 working days...seems like a simpler option to me...? (Tried the beta service and did not get anywhere..probably because i don't have a photo license..)
