Avoid Sky Broadband

Sky Broadband is terrible - like the old dial up days in the 90's, I often spend over an hour each day just loading the google home page to start and yes I do multiple restarts with my PC & sky router - it's simply poor service. I have given up calling them as they just take you through a 30 min routine which just tries to prove it's a physical connection problem at my end, which it is not (I don't even use the Wifi, it is cable connected); then they end with 'someone will call you back' (10 times so far), which never happens. Also if I do get it working then make a phone call it will stop working until the call ends - just avoid Sky!

I'm with Sky. I pay for up to 17mbps.

Usually get a little over 20mbps down and 1mbps up when I test. Really can't fault the connection at all, very rarely drops. Although I admit the Self-Heal is a PITA when it does.

Maybe try sending them an email, explain what you've done and why you think it's a problem at their end. I find writing everything down generally makes everything clearer for both parties and stops you going round in circles.

Is the router plugged into the master socket? What are your line stats with the router plugged into the test socket?

That doesn't sound like an ISP issue. It is more likely to be caused by something in your house. Have you tried different microfilters? Are you using microfilters?

No issues here either and get 17-20Mbps all day.

I would as above check your equipment again to check its all plugged in secure.

As above, you either have a duff filter, or you have an active extension without a filter on it.

I'm very happy with Sky. I only get just over 6 Mbps but that is about 20% more than with previous providers. (Predictions are only around 5).

It would be interesting to know what speed the router has synched the ADSL line at.

I wonder if OP could post this?

To access go to web browser and enter 192.168.0.1
Then login and click maintenance/router status.

I'm with sky and the downstream speed is a very healthy 7007mb/s with upstream of 862.

If we know your result it could be a starting point for diagnosing the problem.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I had that problem (connection would drop as soon as the phone even rang, or was lifted off the hook) - in fact all kinds of issues. Loads of crackling on my phone line, various connection problems. Took forever to get it sorted but in the end BT came and did quite a lot of work on the pole and replaced part of my wiring, and it's been ok since... fingers crossed!

I was with TalkTalk at the time. I doubt it's Sky's fault, as such - but unfortunately you have to go through whoever's your ISP at the time.

    I assume you meant 192.168.0.1?

How old is your PC ? (eg do you have the same issues with other devices)
When did you last change your filter ?
Have you accessed the test socket ?
