Nice parts of Essex?

Can anyone suggest some nice parts of essex to live no more than an hours drive from dagenham. we have looked at chelmsford but the houses all just seem a bit run down and tired looking to me, although the town centre is not bad. sorry should have said budget of 235k or under.

it really depends what you are after(flat or house),an hour from dagenham really takes you down to shoeburyness,southend,wakering,rochford,hockley ect.
If you like to be a bit in the country,look at great wakering(dry part of the uk)its true.
you can still get a decent 3 bed place for 235.000 here at present.0 -

look at the villages around chelmsford or maldon,, if u go as far out as to the dengie its very nice (bunrham on crouch, althorne etc)
