  • boliston it is fine if the flat has been soundproofed. My sisters flat has laminate and she never hears her neighbors upstairs.
I think this guy has laminate no underlay.
im reluctant to fight fire with fire, he doesnt seem like a bad person but its so irritating, he runs up the stairs, walks in shoes it is really making me hate him, which i shouldnt as he is just living normally but i cant help it.
then again today he has been extra stompy and his tv is blaring, im hoping its not intentional.
  • I'm afraid as legally you can't do anything you have to do something to reduce your reaction to the noise he makes.

I live next door to a lovely couple, who have a couple of dogs. They can bark for hours on end. I wear headphones most of the time because I generally have a low tolerance to sudden noises so I have headphones on and play tv programmes/music or nothing. I barely notice the noise. If I didn't I'd probably be very irritated. In fact, yesterday after a long silence, the dogs started barking again, I was quite relieved because I was getting worried lol.

If you want to get psychological.., I think instead of feeling helpless, it helps me to know I can do something about the noise level (or my reaction to it).

i wondering if there are any laws
i dont agree he should have laminate flooring for this very reason, there are many complaints like mine in regards to laminate in floors above
i do agree he can wear shoes if he wishes although i think it is inconsiderate

as people have said on here, there is no legal way to make him change. There are no laws.

Either move, soundproof, retaliate or accept it. Whether he has been there the longest or not I would be tempted to say to him that unless he curbs his selfish attitude then you will be giving a 10 minute blast of music in the early hours. Lets see how long it takes to break him when he has had his sleep disrupted for a week.

I wouldnt give a toss about him, he doesnt give a damn about you clearly.

Also never understood people who wear shoes in the house, imagine the crap you bring in from the street.....worse than animals.

Retaliation is the last thing you should do. Apart from being petty, you don't want to have to declare a dispute when you sell.

Most people are reasonable. He probably thinks you are hyper sensitive. The only way to convince him that you are not is to invite him in for an agreed experiment - while he has tea and cake chez vous, a friend wearing boots walks about his flat. He will then hear the noise for himself and either agree that it's unpleasant and change his ways, or confirm his belief that you are hyper sensitive.

Quite novel for a tenant selling the property they are renting.

Very loud music for ten minutes at 3 am.
Especially if he works, he does work I assume?

Would be the quickest route to eviction for the OP.

Strange they can't persuade the dogs to do that for them:D

The ironic thing is that if you look at photos of apartments on rightmove or any other property portal site you will see about 80% of the time the apartment photos have laminate NOT carpet.

Is this sort of thing more of a problem in conversions rather than purpose built flats??
