Direct debits question..

Options
Hi, I've recently lost my debit card iIordered a new one last Thursday but it still has not arrived :s my main question is will this affect my direct debits coming out? Part of the process of ordering a card is having the previous one cancelled incase it has been stolen. Will this affect collections? My main concern is a payday loan, will anything change with a new debit card or will all remain the same? Thanks :D

It will not affect Direct debits.

It may affect CPA's. Continuous Payment Authority which is where the company can collect using your card number as previously stored.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • So the cpa is the payday loan? Sorry I'm a bit dim when it comes to money

If you pay the PDL by direct debit it will be unaffected by the issue of a new debit card, as previously stated above.

However, if the DD fails, or you cancel it(!), then it's possible that the PDL company would attempt to collect payment via your debit card. If they already have your old card number I believe the bank will still pay, by linking the old and new numbers.

    It can be either.
For a DD they need the sort code and the account number.
For a CPA they need the card details.
    Both require your independent/separate authorisation.
In a bank statement they are shown differently - check yours.

That said, a cancelled card generally doesn't stop CPA payments.
