OP first sensible post is #18

You may have saved £30 but at what cost?

How much are you paying the solicitor for his work? £30 is nothing.

It can't really be the first sensible post when it's agreeing with (and quoting) mine which was #13.

I'd have either done it a few days before or used CHAPS but no need to verify a reputable solicitor's client account.

I'd still want to verify the conduit first with a quid! Not always practical/possible though with a solicitor's collection account?

IMHO this is irrelevant and your logic is flawed. If I can't find a plane ticket for less than £1K, this doesn't mean that I shouldn't bother to try saving on getting to the airport or on parking.

    £30 is £30. Money doesn't smell.

It was more that I wouldn't trust myself!

That said, a solicitor once tried to give me their sort code and account number for a £90K CHAPS transfer over the phone! Seemed a little put out when I asked him to put it in writing.

I see your logic but with fp the transaction mightn't go through. With CHAPS it is guaranteed to reach the beneficiary account the same day. £30 for peace of mind isn't a bad price in my view.

Trying to save money can become addictive but you have to look at the bigger picture sometimes. The chances are that a faster payment would arrive the same day but what would be the consequences if it didn't?

Well, this a different logic, not "£30 is nothing compared to...".

I don't know the consequences as I bought my house long time ago and don't remember everything. Now, if I was that worried, I'd possibly consider making an advance partial or full payment to the solicitor.

It does. It can save a sleepless night because you didn't complete a purchase by trying to save thirty quid.

That's the sort of comment I was thinking of when I posted earlier.

It's not always appropriate to put 'money saving ' first at the expense of comfort, peace of mind, convenience and plain common sense.

As long as you recognise that you could, and will, do better in future. :)
