O/S Daily Thread for Tuesday 24th November
Hard_Up_Hester
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning all
LW I hope you are ok.
Ivyleaf, nice to see you.
Good luck with the house hunting Elona
Mrs LW, hubby & I visited the Weald & Downland Museum and loved it.
I'm having trouble sleeping after yesterday's debacle, hardly surprising though.
I'm still suffering from a stress related attack of diverticulitis.
It was MIL's funeral yesterday, and it all went much as expected.
The funeral directors forgot the flowers.
BIL2 refused to carry the coffin so one of the grandsons stood in, BIL2's wife completely lost the plot, started swinging her handbag around, screaming and swearing & then spat in my face.
It seems she objected to me bowing to the coffin, I thought she said I should have curtseyed though another family member thought she was complaining about me being there at MIL's deathbed.
I'm off to work today, hubby is on lates so is working 2 'til 10, I'll need to make him a pack up for his supper, I don't bother to cook just for me so I'll probably have scrambled egg.
Mind you, that's only if my stomach has settled otherwise I'll be living on water.
Have a good day everyone
Hugs Hester

Good morning, Hester that all sounds so awful and exhausting for you both. Hoping you feel less stressed and ill as the day goes on.
Today I will be seeing a friend and doing some Christmas shopping.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
H/H how dreadful for both you and your OH .You can at least know that you did everything in your power to help your late MIL.Ignore the family who behave like that and remember the lady who you obviously thought a lot of .She was the important person there yesterday. Now at least you won't have to see these dreadful people again.<<hugs>> to you and your family at such a stressful time xxx
Well chums, looked out of the window and its raining ,not quite as cold as yesterday at least which is a blessing in itself.
I had a nice walk ,even though it was nippy yesterday morning with the walking group, really blows the cobwebs away and we were lucky enough to have blue skies as well. I also spotted a book at the library when we returned and were sitting drinking our tea which was good.
Today I am hosting the U3A coffee morning as I am on the rota, so more chat and coffee
:):)
I have been making a list of things I will be buying for next months festivities. Mainly presents and a lot of it my DD will get for me online and I just pay her when they arrive. She works at a local school so she gets them all sent to her works address so if I'm not around during the day I know they will be delivered safely there.
DGS's G/F Katie has been offered a place at Sheffield Uni for next year to do her Msc (Res) in Transitional Oncology and she is very pleased. Not too sure how DGS will cope without her, although I know he is very proud of her. We'll see next Sunday as they are coming down for the day from Norfolk where they are both at Uni at the moment. Its his Dad's birthday so a quick surprise visit is on the agenda
Right I feel the need for a cuppa, so keep warm and dry chums if you can
Cheers JackieO xxx0 -
Morning all. A dry and calm start to the day here but rain is forecast by daybreak. Yuk. But at least it feels less cold! A bad night again for me, I can't decide if it's the IC or the start of another damned uti. Oh I get sick of them going on and on.
HESTER words fail me. Your BIL2 and wife sound made for each other and certainly don't spoil a couple. Let's hope now the funeral is over you don't have to see much of them. They both have big problems by the sound of it.
GERS I quite like Tess, I much prefer her to Bruce, but have to agree with you re Nigella! She might make scrumptious looking meals but she is so affected I could throw my slipper at the tv!
Not a lot planned for today I don't think. Although I really should have a clear out in the wardrobe. I keep making feeble attempts at shoving bits in the cs bag but there's stuff in there I just know I won't wear again. The time has come to be ruthless!
Mr TA has expressed a wish for fish pie today so that's what I'll be making for tea. He went off so many things during his bad spell that it's a treat when he says he fancies something! I always have an assortment of fish in the freezer so will get some fillets out later.
I hope the poorlies soon start to feel better, (((((((HUGS))))))) to those wanting/needing them. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning All
Yucky and wet again outside, I'll leave the washing till tonight when I should have a full load. DW emptied.
HH - They deserve each other!
I'm not keen on Tess either, she is so wooden. I love Claudia though, much more natural and seems to have a good sense of humour.
Feeling better this morning, hope you are too Gers. I may be going to the cinema this evening to see Spectre, see how I feel.
Made some oatie biscuits last night as I had the oven on for some almond crackers, I'm trying to avoid wheat as I think it was the pizza base that upset my tummy the other day. I have a huge tub of biscuits for work but have left some for the builder as he'll be coming to try to clean the tiles again.
Take care. XX0 -
Good morning all,
Dark and wet outside at the moment, hopefully it will clear later.
Hester you knew you would be ill eventually, didn't you. I am so sorry you are suffering, but hopefully contact with the couple from hell will be over. I expect the period leading up to the funeral took it's toll on you, anticipating what might happen.
TA it is good news that DH is eating well and actually fancying certain foods, but not good about another iti for you, take care.
We had a busy day yesterday. DGD1 has redecorated her room, and it looks lovely but she didn't want some of the furniture in the room, so we had to re-house it in the little bedroom. It was a good reason for Himself to sort some of his stuff out ready for the Hospice shop. She had a wardrobe from I*ea delivered at 8p.m. on Sunday and had it assembled by 10p.m. She declined any offers of help and made a really good job of it. Next, she wants to paint the pine chest of drawers and will shop for the paint next week she says. She is definitely her Nan's granddaughter:):)
Today we are off to the charity shop first thing and then off to Mr T for a few essentials. I did masses of washing yesterday so not enough today to warrant putting thr WM on.
GERS I hope you feel a bit better today, but it sounds as though you are doing the right thing, staying in and keeping warm.
Stay safe everyone and keep warm, and hugs to anyone who would like or need one

Morning all.
Hester. Yesterday sounds horrible. Sometimes death brings out the worst in people. Can you avoid having anything to do with them all now?
I hope you feel better today.Goals - Weight loss 6/26lb at 22nd Jan 18Mmmm. 26lb at 1/7/18. Oops:o0 -
Morning all.
Hester that is unbelievable  hope you feel better soon xx
Im on a course today 'Understanding Autism' hopefully it will give me more of an insight into some of my clients minds, it also gives me a more restful day than normal so quite looking forward to it.
Dinner tonight will be pork belly strips in some kind of sauce will put them in the sc before I leave this morning, dd will have quorn chicken in a sauce, will do it with rice and peas.
I too cant abide Nigella  I like her recipes but her silly affected ways get right on my nerves !
Need to do a wash tonight and will hang on the airer.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone,
Mizzly and murky out there but not so cold, my little dog got really wet running through the hedges so is now wrapped up cosy in a warm towel, she is so my baby
HH - words fail me re the behaviour of some of your in-laws, not a modicum of respect for your MIL. Time now just to look after yourself and DH, they don't deserve a moment more of your thoughts.
Another nice day planned, my DM wants to pick up a couple of wreaths for my DD's and DB's graves so will head to local nursery this morning as they always do nice holly ones. Then we are off out to lunch again, get us.
Get well wishes to all poorly folk, have a good day all x0 -
Morning :hello:
Hester  That's awful. I must admit I expected you to say there were dramatics at the funeral, but that's appalling behaviour and very disrespectful to your MIL. I hope you and Mr H are OK xx
Having said that, if someone ever spat in my face, they'd be on the floor.
The dentist appointment was OK yesterday. I didn't get told off for not ringing them when my tooth fell out
It's PMS time for me, everything is sensitive and irritating for a couple of days then – even the feel of my clothes irritates me, lol. I just about coped with the hygienist's jetwashing, but couldn't face the sandblasting so I wimped out, which is annoying because when that's been done I walk out of there feeling quite fab. My gums feel a bit sensitive so I'll just eat soft food today. I even struggled with a banana yesterday

I didn't do much yesterday afternoon so I'll be catching up today, though it's not too bad, just hoovering, dusting and a couple of loads of washing. There's a bit of bookkeeping but not much. I want to sort the Christmas things properly and write a list of what I still need. There's not much to get but I want to make sure I've not missed anything, then I can get it all in one trip – except a couple of things from Boots which aren't available yet. Might even write my cards too

Morning, ((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.
Hester, I suppose what happened was inevitable, they deserve each other. You on the other hand acted with great dignity and did all you could to help your MIL and I am sure she was grateful.
I am sorry that your tummy trouble has reared its head, but stress does that to you. I hope you are feeling better soon a big (((((((((hug))))))) for you and your OH.
Well its raining, so a bit warmer this morning. I hate these blasted storage heaters, I turned them down yesterday, its not quite so warm as on Sunday when I had to open the back door in the kitchen it was so hot in there. One of my orchids in the hall has dropped all its flowers so I am going to move them into the back bedroom, would really like to put them in the bathroom but no room on the window cill.
Freeze audit today and shopping list to do for tomorrow, a trip to Aldi at Grantham for stuff that can be stored for Christmas. I have an appointment at the pacemaker clinic on 22nd so will be able to pop into Aldi on the way home for the last minute stuff.
Hopefully I will get a load of white stuff dry tomorrow, the forecast is for fair weather.0
