Ex tenants using my address, is it dodgy?

  • It'll be no consolation to know that I'm still getting mail more than 2 and a half years after the previous occupant moved out. It occasionally dies down and then renews and you get to recognise the return addresses. On one recent example I returned it to sender (who has sent many such missives) stating that future ones will go in the log basket. I'd previously returned such posts but after a hiatus of some months they seem to resume. Anyway, a week later and another one from the same address, and into the log basket it went, but not before ascertaining it was debt collectors chasing a £2K+ electricity bill.. B*****ks to any suggestion that I was interfering with the mail.. :-)

The same scrote also used this address for non-payment of a railway fare, and that I had to open and phone the court as they didn't supply a return address on the envelope. No visits so far..

I'm in my 6th year of renting (though not for much longer hopefully) and I still get letters for the previous tenant. Not as much as in my first year though

Noticed someone was putting sellotape across the door and mailbox presumably to see they were being opened.

Then had a grumpy Bailiff turn up and try and get money from us.

I've never opened any of the letters, just put them back in the postbox with not at this address. But its safe to assume the letters were money demands.

But as I say approaching 6 years of doing this we still get letters.

It'll be no consolation to know that I'm still getting mail more than 2 and a half years after the previous occupant moved out. - You are not, the address is. It occasionally dies down and then renews and you get to recognise the return addresses. - So just RTS NKATA or bin them. - It's not your bill. So it's irrelevant. B*****ks to any suggestion that I was interfering with the mail.. :-) - You were, but I'm not getting into that.

The same scrote also used this address for non-payment of a railway fare, and that I had to open and phone the court as they didn't supply a return address on the envelope. No visits so far..

    - No you didn't. You had to RTS NKATA - royal mail open the letters and find out the details.

I was in the same situation and my previous tenant did all dodgy stuff one day police break in to the flat which is really scary.I used to receive all the letters for ex tenant and used to post back saying he is not living any more but that didn't make any difference

I have been living in my house for over 20 years. Previous owner supported one of the local rugby clubs.

I have explained repeatedly that he is long dead, deceased etc etc. They may stop for a year or so when I bother to tell them, but start again at the beginning of another season. Why they wish to waste their money chasing a long incinerated ex-member I do not know - or care.

I just recycle the post now.

Same problem at my address. For a year I did RTS NKAA but now bin them. I've got better things to do with my time.
  • I've lived at my address for just over 21 years and still get post for previous occupiers.
Straight in the recycling it goes.
