You can take him to small claims court. You might even win but winning a judgement is the easy bit, enforcing it is another matter altogether. It just depends on how far you want to take it.0

It sounds harsh I know but sometimes in life you need to learn that certain battles will be both costly and time consuming which still net no results.
The person that has done this would likely try and avoid any legal challenge made and if by some chance you did manage to win I would put bets on him having nothing in the bank and lets say the debt was £5000.00 you would be looking at payments being instructed via the Courts of £5.00 per week and then if he fails this it is further monies needed by you to enforce said debt.
Personally if it was me I'd be using other avenues to re-coup my money here.0 -

OP - I hope you didn't lose too much money. With friends like that, who needs enemies!I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly, and I can move and merge threads there. Any views are mine and not the official line of moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Or to handle it another way, buy a wheel clamp, clamp their car, release fee = money owed.
If your "friend" calls the police, welcome a conversation about the monies owed with the police there.Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....0 -

This will not work if the Police are called regardless of a debt owed by the individual to the OP they will not sit back and say to the OP yes MR Smith keep the clamp on and await the payment first.0 -

Although this is almost certainly not going to reunite the OP with his long lost money, it may well win him an all expenses paid holiday courtesy of her Majesty.0
