    My ideal layout:

    1. Square/rectangular shaped for optimum space usage
    2. Must have a window which opens outside (without window using bathroom immediately after someone left is a challenge :) - exhaust fan doesn't help much)
    3. A storage cabinet
    4. Bathtub layout in such a way that plumber can access taps easily. In our main bathroom if any bathtub plumbing work is required one needs to access it via storage cupboard.
    5. Two wash basins instead of just one. If space permits it is a time saver. In the morning kids can bruth teeth in parallel which saves few minutes (valuable in the morning rush).
    6. Suitable space for hanging a large mirror
    7. Loo and bathtub always in same room - if these are separate there is a 99% chance that user will pee on bathtub!
    8. Shower and bathtub combo
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

See it's all personal preference - I would never ever design a bathroom with the door at 2 and the toilet at 8 - it means the first thing you see on walking in the room is the loo. I'd rather a some other item be the first impression.

I have a door that opens at 3 and a toilet at 9 - I absolutely hate it - especially since it's a terrace, the bathroom is at the top of the stairs and if you leave the bathroom door open and the front door is open - you can have an embarrassing conversation with whichever unfortunate is stood at the front door :o

As soon as I have the funds saved, it's all being changed round regardless of the cost of moving waste services.

The reason of that is that take min. floor space as 8' wide x 6' deep. My parent apartment has that lay out with hotel style build in cabinet across 1 4 7, which give a lot of storage.

i currently have the loo at 7 and facing the bath instead. not much room for storage

Edit: if you are going to tile the bathroom, I suggest you get the big wall tile. i am sick of cleaning the grouting in between.
  • I had to build an upstairs bathroom in my house, it was an old Victorian place with a downstairs bathroom.

Came up with this plan (its a double ended bath through)

luckily I already had a separate upstairs WC, its a 2.4mX1.9m internal room. Its not massive but the space is really well used.

    ended up looking like this.

It wouldn't take much more room to add a WC into it.
