O/S Daily Monday 23 November 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and gone to work early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.
Now getting light, very cold and frosty here.
Dinner last night was egg, bacon, sausage, chips, beans, mushrooms and toast – not the healthiest but we were much later back than we expected then had to unload the car, and then do a couple of visits. DH had borrowed some boots from a work colleague so needed to return those. When we were away we got a phone call Friday night from DS1 saying my mum had had an accident – she wasn’t in hospital but had been to hospital and then had treated her and sent her home. It looks like she’s done ligament and tendon damage to 1 knee – but she has already had both knees replaced. We wanted to visit them too, she’s uncomfortable and in pain but goes back to the hospital on Wednesday when hopefully then can decide what they are going to do – if anything. Not sure what we will be having for dinner tonight, I’ll need to sort that today.
I’m now on annual leave until next Monday – so have a whole big list of things I want to get done. The weekend was excellent, and everything went very well, the hosts laid on an excellent meal Saturday night and the entertainment Friday night was very entertaining and apparently is viral on internet! DH and I hosted a cheese and wine reception Sat lunchtime and that went well and I’d catered reasonably accurately so there was some LO’s but not loads. I do have unopened wine left – but we’ll keep that for Xmas, so I don’t have actually have much more alcohol to buy – just some spirits etc. DH and I were presented with thank you gifts – I have the most beautiful bouquet of flowers, some chocolates and DH has a bottle of malt whisky – lovely thoughtful gifts but we never took the jobs on and did the work involved to benefit from it – but it is nice that the hard work is recognised. We took the equipment we held whilst DH was in position and handed that over to the new Chairman, my house is looking much tidier already. DH has already sat and gone through the huge pile of papers that were on top of our drinks cabinet and they are either in the recycling bin or awaiting shredding, he has another huge pile that he needs to sort – but that will be much the same. I’m hoping I can encourage him to do those of the next couple of days whilst I’m off then I can clean up those areas too.
I have a bit of a “to do” list – so need to crack on. I will be going xmas shopping possibly tomorrow. Today I need to clear the dirty wash basket which is full and overflowing – although the boys did do a load of washing so they had clean and dry clothes for today. WM is on with the first load at the moment. I will be heading to the SM shortly as the fridge is rather bare. I will be staying at home and cracking on with getting jobs at home done today, so at least the house will be reasonably tidy and washing and drying up to date.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
What a fabulous sunny day we had yesterday, it was cold but didn't rain, went for a walk with friends and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think rain is forecast again today.
Not much happening here, work with netball after school. Not sure what's for tea, will have a look in the freezer in a minute. Yesterday I treated myself to a steak from Ald! with lots of veggies, it was really good.
Hope you all have a good week ahead. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all
The fish have been fed, no packups today as food id being provided.
We're setting off in a sec, once hubby has scraped the frost off the car, brrrrr.
Who knows what today will bring.
Have a good day everyone
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Good Morning chums ,black as Newgates Knocker outside at the moment apart from the white frost covering the cars.
This morning I have my weekly library 'healthy living walk' so I will be well wrapped up, gloves.scarf, hat, boots and thick coat.I do enjoy it and as long as I am layered up it won't kill me.Plus we get a hot drink and a biscuit when we get back to the library All free, so what's not to enjoy. The first part of the walk is through the park which with the frost should look good, I may take my Ipod to catch a few pictures.
Then home for a bit of knitting and hot parsnip and apple soup made yesterday and then off round to DDs to let the dogs out for a constitutional whilst I do her prep. for their dinner.
Then feet up and a bit of TV and knitting until the boys come in from school.Easy day today:):)
Hope everyone is keeping warm and snug as it looks as though winter is having its first peep this week
Cheers chums

Morning all,
Very cold here it was bitter during the night I took a hot water bottle up to bed I was that cold, we have had the heating on but I had nipped into the garden for something and the cold was horrible, I do feel for homeless people in this weather poor things.
Off to work today should be quiet because of the weather. Roast pork for dinner left over from yesterday although I might have to do a few more spuds and some peas to stretch it a bit.
Need to do a wash tonight and get it on the airer, OH bought a coat at the CS at the weekend and washed it last night, we hung in on the line for an hour in the evening and when we got it in it was stiff as a board :rotfl:I think winter has arrived !
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning all. It still feels nippy despite the forecast of getting back to seasonal average. At least the snow and ice melted yesterday so less hazardous outside! And another nice, but cold, day is forecast for today.
I had another profitable trip down to TKMaxx yesterday morning and more Xmas gifts were crossed off my list. I think I am now down to the main presents for the DGDs. I know what I am getting so no problem there.
Mr TA has his first fortnightly post therapy blood test today, the results of which have to be faxed to Liverpool. To check the therapy isn't causing any internal problems. At the moment, whether it's thanks to the therapy or his monthly injection in Leeds, he is plodding on ok. He still gets tired but is eating better and the weight is going back on slowly. If the treatments can keep him at this level for a long time that's all we hope for. Meanwhile, we are trying not to worry about the future and enjoying life whilst we can.
Not much cooking needs to be done today. Quite a lot of yesterday's gammon left, along with an assortment of veg and mashed potatoes, so that will be tonight's dinner! Lunch probably a wrap or bagel and some HM soup (from the freezer) when we get back from the phlebotomy clinic. I think we'll need well wrapping up.
Have a good day all ((((((HUGS)))))) to those wanting/needing them and I hope the poorlies are feeling a bit better. Take care and wrap up warm! xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone,
Just back from the girls morning walk, cold and crisp, the most stunning sunrise is now pinking up the clouds, beautiful. Have put some salt down on the garden path as really quite slippery.
Off into Cambridge today with my DM, she has a list of what pressies she wants so hopefully we can get everything for her. Am really pleased how much the swelling on her legs has gone down, it's really improved her mobility and she is doing her exercises every day which has obviously helped. Her appetite has also improved, ate a good meal yesterday, we have chicken and fennel pasta bake today which hope she will enjoy.
Have a good day everyone, stay safe if you are out and about xx0 -
Good morning everyone
We have had our first frost here and apparently it was very amusing to see Max dancing his way down the path as he has never encountered it before. It will be very funny if we get some actual snow this year just to see his reaction. Hubby has gone off to work all wrapped up and the girls are getting ready for school. I had a dreadful nights sleep so I will be heading back to bed once the house is quiet.
My friend wants to come over today but I will put her off as I'm not much company today, I just want to sleep and then when I wake up I have a load of knitting I want to finish. I will give her a ring in a little while, I hope she will be understanding.
I've given a list of cards I need and some money to DD12 to stop off after school and get them from the card shop. I will then spend tonight writing out cards and I also like to write letters to the girls grandparents to keep them up to date.
Well, I have to catch up on some washing and dig the manual out for the dishwasher as it has stopped working properly. I really hope it is a simple fix as I can do without a big expense this month. I will be making a chicken and leek pie for tea as well so I will be keeping busy this afternoon.
I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning ((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.
Its brrrrr here, have just been out and put a load of laundry on the whirly, if nothing else it will freeze!!
Monday clean to do, late waking again, seems to be the norm through the winter, think we will have to start using the alarm clock, if we get up late it puts us back through the day.
Nipped over to see mt neighbour yesterday P has got cellulitis in his foot, he is on strong anti biotics and has to keep his foot up. Not nice, very painful.
OH is about to go out and put the hanging basket plants and a tray of ivy leaf geraniums in the little plant house. I asked him to do it last week, did he? No!! fortunately the frost does not seem to have caught them, but not taking any chances.
I need to do a freezer audit, plan to go to Aldi on Wednesday. I have an appointment at the pacemaker clinic on Dec 22nd, so can do a top up shop then at Aldi in Leicester.
Right off to do the Monday clean and try and catch up on the day0 -
Good morning OSers!
What a cold one today! I managed until now, with only popping the heating on when i really really had to (usually to help dry washing) but im pretty sure it'll be on most mornings now Brrrr! DD had a lovely red nose going into school this morning, Bless her.
Had a busy weekend cleaning/organising the house. Got 4 black bags of clothes to charity and recycled lots of bits too. My bedroom looks so much better. I'm slowly painting the house, working on downstairs first as that is what visitors see- looking better already, so fresh and clean
DD has voted jacket potatoes for tea, i will serve with some cheese, nice ham and sliced spring greens...This weather calls for comfort food.
Need to write a shopping list as i fancy having a batch cooking weekend, DD is begging to make bread too.
Any advice on making chutneys? Secrets to success? Would be greatly appreciated!
Right off to make a cuppa and have a lurk about.
