Three quarters of a million quid for a terraced house in Croydon
The world's gone mad. It's not even in Wood Green.0 -
My lil bro had a house in Croydon that he kept as a btl when he gadded off round the world with his multinational - not sure if he ever sold it - if not then there will be a lot of CGT and stamp duty when he does - no wonder the govt is bringing in policies to try and get btl owners to turn over their properties....I think....0

I'd happily pay that for a house, but I'd expect a driveway so long that you couldn't see it on street view.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -
While I'm not earning anything like the sort of money the examples in this thread are, this is the point I've long made about the current cost of living situation in a large area of the country.
If you do not earn a lot, you do not have a lot of spending power, and significant compromises need to be made to get by. That's a fact of life, no matter how much or little housing costs. But the fact that people earning decent and in some cases very good money are struggling with the cost of living is just absurd.
They would admittedly be significantly better off without private schooling. But then the question should be "if I'm paying this much in tax, why are the fee paying schools so much better as to still be worth the money"?0 -
I am not highly paid for London (university admin) but am comfortably overpaying my mortgage (no purchasing assistance from BOMAD), have no other debts, respectable savings and consider myself to have a good social life. I know I don't have children and am lucky that I get free travel due to my boyfriend working for TFL, but I do sometimes genuinely wonder what other people spend their money on.They are an EYESORES!!!!0

You know It's hard to get by on £6000 a month after paying the mortgage.0

Obviously not many people can have literally everything that they want, they need to learn to prioritise and compromise, like everyone else does (or should).
couldnt have put it better myself.0 -
It irritates me when "loaded" people moan about how they're struggling ... they've got no idea whatsoever ..... clueless ..... 'struggling' my 4rse.0

I remember my parents were looked at as quite odd by their friends when they didn't sent my brother or I to private school. The fees put their friends under massive financial pressure, and frankly, did nothing for their children's eventual prospects.
All it takes is car loans, expensive holidays and school fees to make a high earning family have the relative spending capacity of a much less well off family. All stuff people can live without; but don't want to compromise on.0
