If i dont have a htb isa i can still do the htb mortgage 20% cant i? My partner opened a isa in april i think but i havnt, so if we both open one each and put 200 ourself and 200 the other person into EACH one we can save £800? Is that what you meant, it still is low but if i did that i can always keep money in my bank left over and just save it up normally through my own bank account?

You can use help to buy isa and any other help to buy schemes together.

You can still claim 25% on what you put in, you do not have to wait 5 years to claim it, so it is worthwhile to still use it if you plan to buy a house. E.g. 2 years for example you put in £5800 total and recieve £1450 on top of that.

Have you read post #4 and #6? Any questions on those? Hint, a normal ISA isn't one of them.

I can't speak for the others but don't think anyone is trying to talk down to you - however, if you're looking to learn by asking questions (as of course you're perfectly entitled to do, that's what this place is for) then reading the answers would seem a fairly sensible place to start....

Yes I agree. Learning is important but you don't learn by repeating the same questions and not reading replies that would help. To learn you need to read them and then ask further questions on any items that are unclear.

I wonder if it would help to go to basics and explain what an ISA and a savings account are?

The ISA you should be looking at is the one you started out talking about - the HTB ISA. For the simple reason as it offers you the easiest way to earn up to £50 a month tax free.

Other ISAs make no sense. I'll try a third time: Saving in a normal ISA is not a good idea if you need your cash in the next 5 or so years. You can get much better interest in other accounts - see best savings accounts and/or other posts on the forum.

Which of the best savings accounts doesn't suit your needs, and why not?

What's the youngest age? Son is 1 and I think this'll be more useful than a pension
