Who do you holiday with?

I go with Mr Duke, I do all the research & booking .... which I really enjoy. He just packs his camera bag the day before we go, & looks online at occasional pictures of the county we're visiting. But he's my Sat Nav, I have a terrible sense of direction where I only have to go to the bog at the airport & I end up taking off in the wrong direction on my way out
Mr Duke always finds me :rotfl:
I've/we've previously been with family, but to be honest they drive us absolutely barmy! We wanted different things out of our holiday & it just didn't work out, never again!
You could all go together

Generally holiday with family (sister, Parents). Just make sure there are opportunities to do your own thing.
Am also quite happy to travel alone. Recently, spent the week in Barcelona , wandering about just enjoying the city.
Have no problem going out to dine by myself. Will bring my ereader or just people watch.0 -

I'd happily do a weekend city break on my own for the culture aspect, I'm going to Russia next Easter which will be a group with a guide, these hols are normally a mix of lone travellers and couples/friends. I don't have the confidence to do Moscow/St Petersburg justice on my own. Have also done AI beach holiday totally alone and met people no problem, but more than happy to spend days on my own.
I'm not sure these days if I would go away with a friend or friends.... in actual fact most probably only with someone I'd met and kept in touch with from a singles holiday would work best if I did.
I tend to holiday on my own, after years with a partner who constantly made any holiday plans a nightmare, after a trip arranged to Florence for both he became such a pain that I went ahead alone and loved it. Have never even bothered to ask anyone else to go on holiday with me since.
Do not feel intimidated about going to Russia alone. I spent a week in St Petersburg in June, it was brilliant, I would go back in a heartbeat, although a spent a week there I barely touched the surface. It was certainly more challenging due to not only adifferent language but a different alphabet.
I would suggest anyone going anywhere alone to find out if there is a "greeter" where you are going. This is a free service where you are teamed up with a local who will show you the area, give advise on places to eat, the travel system etc. etc. I had one in St Petersburg and it was extremely helpful. I am planning a trip to New York next year and intend to book a greeter there.0 -
I spent years dining alone in hotels and restaurants while travelling on business.
I wouldn't do it out of choice.0 -
I am also going to Tromso , with my husband .
I do all the research and planning , booking and packing ! That's because I love to do it . When will you be in Tromso ? We will be there in February for my birthday .
Wow, I'm going in Feb too - the end of feb for 3 nights.
I guess I would be less annoyed at doing the entire booking/research if I was travelling with a partner as with a partner we could give & take in other areas (he could do DIY/cooking/take car to MOT for e.g). But with a friend they get to enjoy and relax knowing I have everything thought out. Guess that's the price I pay for being reliable!
I have eaten out alone loads of times, but it's always been lunch in a caf! or pub. I've never done it in a more formal or upmarket busy restaurant for dinner and already anticipate that it might seem intimidating. I don't read while I eat, I normally have something on the tv/ipad.0 -
for last 10yrs i have bee away by myself only on every holiday except fo one where i went with my brother prefer it that way so then i dont have people judging me if i take advantage of the company of ladies of the night"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0

I'm travelling to Oz and New Zealand on my own. Went travelling to Thailand, Maylasia Andy Singapore with a friend 5 years ago for 6 weeks but we only managed 4 weeks until we had a difference of opinion and went our seperate ways. Usually go on holiday with my mum though but I'm quite happy with my own company tbh but do like meeting new people when out and about so often stay in hostels:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

I like to go away alone at least once a year - usually a city break in Europe - for 3/4days. I'm ok with eating alone - I bring a book and try and go somewhere that locals like to eat. It's great being able to do exactly what you want and not have to worry about how someone else is feeling or what they want to do, and if you want to stay in your room watching movies on your ipod in the evening you can. I've stayed in hostels sometimes and that's been nice to meet people and try an evening out with them, but now I'm older I like my peaceful sleep so tend to try smaller hotels. No-one thinks it's weird that you're on your own in a restaurant and if they do it's their issue, not yours.
I also holiday with my husband, it's nice to spend some time relaxing with him. We generally like doing the same things. I have a couple of friends I go to conferences and academic stuff with although I wouldn't want to go somewhere for longer than a few days because they tend to stay up later and sleep later than me."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."
