Adding usernames to my ignore list

I am unable to add some user names to my ignore list. I type them into the text box but get a message that the username does not exist.
Why is it so difficult to use this feature? There are some posters whose views I find objectionable and wish not to read.

There is a bug in the forum software that prevents adding some usernames when typed in,

Sometimes when that happens doing it this way works.

I think there's only one poster i ignore, i haven't put him on ignore but don't bother with his posts. He comes on asking banal questions you;d expect from a 12yr old then never returns to pass comment on any discussions on thread.
