You're mixing a trader up with a private individual.This is a myth, they are under no legal requirement to volunteer that information, it is down to the buyer to ask and at that point they must be honest.

So if we were to accept this £150 part exchange, I should be able to pursue the original dealer for £1350?
You must be joking if
a- you think you can get a full refund effectively
b- you think the dealer will give you anything
They'll just claim they told you and you have to prove otherwise.
You basically own a banger and havng this marker affects its value very little. How you'd prove any loss of value is beyond me anyway as the banger market can be fickle0 -
