Sainsburys mobile - no longer doin PAYG
My dad has a nice cheap handset on Sainsburys mobile. He uses PAYG rather than a contract.
When topping up, he was told that as of December 2015 they will no longer allow PAYG customers to apply top-ups to their phones, instead, they need to move to a contract.
Question is, will Sainsburys offer to unlock all these phones for free in order to allow their customers to go to another PAYG provider?.

Never Knowingly Understood.

Id its a Sainsburys phone they say .
I think my phone is locked to your network, what should I do?
To check whether or not your phone is locked:
Try another network SIM in the phone, if you can make calls and texts, your phone is not locked and a Number Unlock Code (NUC) is not required.
If your phone says no service or similar you will need a NUC, please contact us on 03333 048047 and we will email you the relevant information within 10 days.0 -

I will get hold of another PAYG SIM and try it in his phone. It will either work, or won't.Never Knowingly Understood.

Sainsbury's used theVodafone network. You should find that any other PAYG SIM that uses the Vodafone network should work.
I moved to Talkmobile and that worked straight away.0 -

I think your dad misunderstood. They are not just closing down PAYG, they're closing down the entire network from 16/1/16: that applies to contract phones as well as PAYG.
There's no automatic right to a free unlock, should he need one.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Indeed, the whole operation is closing down...
Important news for our Mobile by Sainsbury's customers0 -
The JS Payg phones were normally unlocked full stop. You can test that is the case by putting any UK Payg Sim Card in it. It does not have to be a vodafone one or one that runs over vodafone.0
