I believe that searchinterneat-a.akamaihd.net has hijacked my Firefox web browser! Malwarebytes told me that it had blocked this spyware yesterday so I removed Firefox & unistalled it & all it components (so I thought). I restarted my pc & downloaded Firefox from Internet Explorer again. When I opened FF there was no mention of the above spyware being blocked. Yay!
Today I load FF & woe & behold Malwarebytes tells me that the spyware has been blocked. Also I had customised my themes & they were slightly different that the ones I had on the original FF. But now the old customisation is showing.:(

Please consider using sandboxie, Shadow Defender, or possibly the free but not as good Cybergenic Shade sandbox, but these will not prevent it from happening.
However when it does happen, you just empty the sandbox and reboot and all is clean again.0 -
Create a new firefox profile
(Simply reinstalling wont work):idea:0 -
Have you tried resetting Firefox settings to the defaults? This usually troubleshoots many browser issues caused by potentially unwanted programs.
Click on Help on the menu bar and select Troubleshooting Information.
Alternatively, click on Firefox menu icon and click on the question mark icon to open Help menu, and then select Troubleshooting Information.
Click on Fresh Firefox… button in the Firefox about:support page.
Click on Refresh Firefox button to confirm the changes and this will remove your customizations and reset other settings to original settings.0 -
Thank you everyone for your replies.
I cleared Firefox cache.
Then closed the Firefox browser.
Made Internet Explorer my default browser.
Cleared Internet Explorer's temporary files.
Removed/uninstalled Firefox & all components.
Restarted my laptop.
Ran Malawarebytes.
Downloaded Firefox (but not as default as yet). Firefox shows my personalised/customized menu & tool bar - I'm not sure how comes but no worries.
In Firefox I sorted out my cookie options.
Firefox >Tools>Options>Privacy>History>Use custom settings for history>Accept Cookies (tick)> Accept third party cookies -NEVER>Keep until ASK ME EVERY TIME
Ran another Malawarebytes scan.
EVERYTHING CLEAR but I haven't signed into my Firefox sync account & I have uninstalled Google Drive where my desktop/android phone/laptop are synced.
I still feel a bit apprehensive every time I turn my laptop on but, hopefully this will pass in time!:j I hope my comment helps :T0 -
As I stated, you need to create a new profile on firefox and delete the old one

When we get hacked by browser hijacker or redirect virus, the most effective way to solve this trouble is to reset settings.
If resettings settings does not help, check control panel to find if there are any suspicious programs are installed, if you have, remove them.
Then check your browser extensions.

To be on the safe side run a couple more deep on-demand scans with something like Emsisoft Emergency Kit or Zemana Anti Malware (paid for but available on 14 day free trial).
To avoid unwanted programmes executing in future take a look at Sandboxie as mentioned by bluesnake or the free version of Voodooshield.0
