Step back and consider that no consumer should ideally have any dealings with Anglian. Then consider the price - in a Wickes catalogue the cost of a typical conservatory would be £3000. I accept that yours is bigger than this.

I had a conservatory last year size around 5m by 2.5m. With foundations, walls, insulated slab, glass roof, electrics, lighting, plastering, decorating, landscaping, path, garden, and the removal of the original asbestos conservatory this cost £9000.

I suggest you seek further quotations, and seek recommendations rather than taking risks with the national names. The rule of thumb is to avoid Anglian, Everest, Safestyle and similar folks.

how did you manage to construct for £9000, did you do it yourself, rather than getting a builder to do it?
my measurements are not far off from yours , but my quotes are around £1300 sq metre
mine will also be at back of house, please advise as to how you managed it at this price,
is it cheaper if you have more glass than brick ?
    Nice to save.

I obtained a few quotes - these were not directly comparable, but gave an indication of prices, sizes and styles. I then went with what I thought was the most promising size, shape and company. The usual of bartering on the price, unfortunately, but that is how this industry works. I bartered with two companies and in the process picked the more promising company.

They gave me options over the glass, the roof, whether I wanted them to supply a builder and whether I wanted them to erect the conservatory.
Of course there is a mark up on all of these but for an easy life I said do everything. This included dismantling an old asbestos conservatory and removing this. The price also included proper foundations, a proper dwarf wall and extensive insulation, proper plastering and making good everywhere including an existing wall.

I felt the price could have been squeezed lower, but relative to what many people are prepared to pay it represents good value. Bear in mind that this was in a relatively expensive part of England and if it were in Northern parts the price was likely to be much lower.

I am not a fan of conservatories, and I was doing this for a family member. I am not emotional, or sentimental, about building items and extensions. However this conservatory has made an impressive addition to the home, and I do look on it as a "wow" factor compared with what was there before.

Mine is an extension. I called it a sun room because it is in the back garden and is built with a lot of glazing. It has four double casement windows, a large pair of French doors and two Velux roof windows.

does more glass make a cheaper extension
I have been quoted 25-30000 for extension 6/4 metres, was yours a lot smaller than this,
I still cannot get my head round , how you managed it for £9000 . did you build it yourself?

  • We ended up placing an order with Anglian as their final quote was comparitively cheaper than others.

£18k excluding carpets and radiators , 3 brick walls with a 4th dwarf wall and glass doors, so overall minimal glass. Sizewise its 18.75sqm.
  • Seems reasonable enough, perhaps a tad high but not massively so.

I hope they are as good as their glossy brochures :D
    Thinking critically since 1996....
