Sainsburys & Nectar

I have been getting deliveries for a while now from Sainsburys. To the point where i have £250 of nectar points. Not really liked their offers before so i have waited. Finally. The double up offer, that looks good.
But firstly, im an online customer. I cant remember the last time i was in a store. So im mildly annoyed they force me to go to a shop to use them, but ok. My nearest one with relevant departments is almost half hour away, but ok.
So i go there. I spend a while picking out all the stuff i want. Go to the customer service desk. Wait another 20 mins as 1 person on when a massive line to get vouchers. Get there. Ask for vouchers and i am told i cant have them because i have not shopped in that store before. What? Yep. Cant have vouchers if not shopped in THAT store before. Im an online customer, i doubt i have been in any store for last 5 years. Sorry i am told, i will have to buy something, use my nectar, wait 24 hours and come back again.
Why treat an online customer so badly? All the lady said is sorry, it is nectar rules, nothing to do with Sainsburys. Great help, thanks. Why treat your online customers like they are second class customers? Firstly why not let me spend online. Secondly why have this stupid rule to !!!! off online customers like me? Im go spend my vouchers then get my deliveries from another supermarket. Easy to swap when you are an online customer. Bye sainsburys.

I had a similar problem.
For some reason you cannot redeem Nectar points against shopping if you have never used that particular Sainsbury's before. You need to buy something, get the points onto your card and then you can redeem Nectar points at that Sainsbury's the next day.0 -

How much compensation do you want, you know for only be told that the staff member was sorry, have you spoken to nectar what did they say about how to spend their coupons after you were traumatised by the Sainsburys staff, Far worse things going on in this world, I am sure they didn't personally fudge you off.
Why oh why to people complain when they can't have their own way.
Did you think to check before you went shopping away from keyboard to see if you could spend your vouchers, or was it assumed?0 -
Yes it is buried in the small print that you must have shopped in the store previously. That might have saved me a bit of time, but i would still have had to go there, buy something, wait 24 hours, then go back.
My gripe is not with the person in the store. It is with the requirement to shop instore and the requirement to have shopped previously at that store. I am being penalised because i shop online. Why? How is that good customer service?
Yes there are far worse things going on in the world. Is that a reason to never complain about anything unless it is the worst thing in the world then? This is a forum for venting...
I dont want conpensation. What i would want is an apology for having such a stupid set of rules and the promise it will change. But im sure i will get a brush off, that is fine, i will go somewhere else.0 -

Have you written to them requesting this?0 -
Yep, will see what they say. But odds on it is a brush off.0

Well, I have to say the "must've shopped in this store" seems a bit of a daft clause to me.0

Please make sure you write to Nectar, not Sainsburys. They are separate companies. Also, looking at the nectar website, it looks like evouchers for use online is a thing? I've never tried, but they have terms and conditions for it.0

I agree.
When you look at the website and click on where you can redeem Nectar at Sainsburys it does not mention needing to use the card at the shop and then visit again the following day. (May have changed since I had an issue)
If I remember correctly I made a polite complaint about it to Sainsbury's and suggested they update the website to make this clear and they sent me a gift card.0 -
I use my Nectar points to get e vouchers, saves having to go into a Sainsburys store if you don't have one that near.0
-
The double up offer is instore only. Not an online option.
Just had a reply from Sainsburys. Apparently when this does happen and you have not used your card in store previously, they can call up nectar, you answer some security questions and you can use it that same day on your first visit.
So either they didnt train the staff member correctly. Or the staff member forgot their training.0
