Cafu,
I can advertise a tatty Rover Metro for £20,000 if I want. That's not false advertising. It's just massively optimistic. So just because a car is advertised for £6,500, doesn't mean it sells for that. In fact, you can be almost certain it sells for less, unless some numpty just walks in and hands over the cash.
I'd guess you could buy the car for £6,000 or maybe a little more. Work on your charm though.
That leaves you £130 down maybe, or did you say £530? Rest assured, it's cost the garage a lot more.
The important thing is getting a car you can use, leave shafting the garage out of it.
You also can't be so specific looking for like-for-like second hand cars. If you want a bespoke car, you have to have it built new. Toyota won't be doing that for £6,000.0 -
I didn't realise that Trading Standards offered advice to individual members of the public in this sort of case. Do they do that? And how did they become aware of this case as I didn't think they accepted referrals from the public at large?0

They were approached by the dealer to mediate. The dealer has a partnership with Trading Standards.0 -

Work on my charm? I don't know how these things work at all. I get told it's priced to sell and I must accept the offer or leave. But I only tried it with Toyota dealers. Never contacted a private or regular dealer. I reckon my disdain for haggling comes from experiencing it in other countries. Where every purchase is a game. I like how it is in the UK were things are priced for how much they should sell.
I remember once visiting a country where I was about to purchase an item and a native got quoted a lower price. The shopkeeper didn't know that I understood the language and I complained to him about the unfair treatment. I think all purchasers should get quoted the same price. IMHO It is immoral to sell an item for different prices to different purchasers.
Anyway I told the dealer that I am considering their offer but I want to know if they can do anything else to remedy the problem first. I want to give them another chance to provide a fix.0 -
It does make me laugh that people are saying you have too much time on your hands, as they make yet another post about someone elses problem!
Cafu, you've been treated badly by Toyota and they have proved they were trying it on by their original miserly offer. Personally I'd take the current offer and move on with my life, use it as an experience and be better off for it in the future. Good luck but do keep us posted.Pants0 -
Don't be daft...
Why are you constantly rude to me? I come on this forum as a moderator of another big forum, so I know that sometimes the first few most vocal posts are not what the average person would say. This is the Internet and we have to accept it.
In regards to the partnership, Google: "trading standards motor trade partnership". You will see that in the Yorkshire region that have this partnership. It's not what you thought I meant.0 -

Thanks bro! Much appreciated replyI am pretty much coming to the same conclusion. I have learned a lot from this experience. I may have less cash and wasted loads of time but I know more about how the world works.

Don't tell Martin Lewis that! Cars, Sky, AA membership - loads of stuff in the UK is haggle-able!but I want to know if they can do anything else to remedy the problem first. I want to give them another chance to provide a fix.
You cannot be serious! We're a long way past this point! The dealer has a partnership with Trading Standards
The dealer has run to Trading Standards about a customer - it's usually the other way round!0
