Non refundable hotel booking

But they were prepared to remove the booking, keep the op on file and rebook when he was available to attend. It's probably equal if not more work than a refund. So if asked to show an additional loss there may not be one, hence to op may not be liable for any additional loss if the room were rebooked by someone else.
It is by virtue of the OP wishing to cancel that they were offered an alternative day, which may even be considered as a "goodwill gesture". Any additional work involved would be the result of OP's desire to cancel, so would incur administrative charges.0 -
It was Zhotels in Piccadilly we booked with and they have very kindly let us postpone the booking until March, which I am very grateful for.
I think you have got more than your rights, so should be grateful to the hotel.
However - and I absolutely don't mean to scare you I am just interested in your mindset - do you seriously think that London will be any more safe in Jan, Feb or March than it is now or in December?0 -

It is a common mindset to hold, and one which is witnessed even with national security!
- Shooting occurs
- Security tightens up and countries react*
- Security slowly becomes more lax as no more shootings occur
- Shooting occurs
- rinse and repeat
Not sure if March 2016 is too soon for an attack but ironically the safest time to visit London/Paris was *probably* just after the shooting! One can fully appreciate the line taken by OP and others, though!
*Unless, of course, the countries do not have the resources to prevent further attacks. Also, not every country is part of the EU or NATO or any other organisation which ensures that terrorists are brought to justice even if they don't reside in the target country! UK and France are powerful enough as to make their countries temporarily safe after an attack (mainly by 'liquidating' the immediate threats).0
