Hello nymphadora, just catching up with your diary, shame that you have hit a lite bump in the road but it sounds like you know what your are doing to get back on the MFW road. I often like to focus on one area of spending at a time to try to lower, whether it is gas/leccy or going out spends. Never food though, I can't/won't cook so always struggle to sort that, sounds like you know what you are doing there though!
Best of luck!Mortgage Apr 18 £417,894 BTL Mar 18 £162,857
Mortgage now -- £350,085 BTL now --- £162,6680 -
Hello FloppyDisk thanks for popping by.
I think focusing on one thing would be good but I'm an impatient girl and want to do everything at once lol.
Right so food shopping has been done and every bit of food has been counted and noted down even down to the last potato. Apart maybe for milk later on in the week there should be no need for a visit to the shops.
My new smart meter is really good for keeping an eye on the gas/elec and it has a handy app for my phone. April we used £157.86 in total so far this month we have used £82.11 with only a few days to go :T:T:T. We have really got that under control.
Still not worked out the monthly budget but plan to do that tonight after dinner.0 -
Not making an overpayment to the mortgage has been playing on my mind so I made the decision to make a small monthly payment until we are able to make bigger ones.
Our normal payment is £712.43 so I decided to round this up to £730 each month. Not much but by paying £17.57 over the next 25 years if that's all we mange should save us £2,947 in interest and knock 11 months off the term.
This makes be a bit happier. So first payment has already been sent :T0 -
Well best laid plans and all that, DDOG had an accident on one of the chairs, no idea why as he has been house trained for the last 4months. The living room is still a room we need to do and the chairs are older and the plan is to replace them but not just yet.
Anyway I washed the cover (removable) thankfully but it was still smelling so I went to the shop and bough that detol laundry wash and the detol all in one spray. Cover is now out drying so hopefully the smell will have gone.
Last night I had also taken to organising the kitchen and utility room and decided the kids needed knew Tupperware boxes to so them for school as there other ones had a few cracks in them.
So all in all I was £19 in Asda.
Dinner tonight will be lasagne and DH is away to work with some HM soup and a cottage pie. He was very impressed when he came in from work yesterday and saw the freezer and fridge had been sorted through and all the food in the house listed.0 -
Good work on your first overpayment & for the food peepingFirst home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!0 -
It's been a busy and messy few days.
Have had some more building work done and oh my the dust has been awful. Today was the worst but I am really pleased to say that rather than resort to a takeaway like we would normally do in this situation I took time to de-dust the kitchen and make a meal for everyone :j
So money has gone to pot again. I am in the process of sorting through everything in the house. The kids clothes was next on my list and they have out grown far too much stuff so needed to get them some stuff, have yet to add it all up.
I have so much to do around the house and June is a very busy month with the kids finishing up school at the end of the month and the school want ££££ for just about everything it seems.
So in order to start getting a bit more organised I am going to do a daily (well as daily as I can manage) to do list.
So tomorrow to do list.
Order baking items needed for end of term party and DF birthday. DONE
Put a wash on with DD's trousers she must have for tomorrow night.
Sort through the food purchased in Costco the other day and portion it up.
Check the bank account.0 -
I also wanted to note down some money figures so I can get them out of my rather cluttered head.
So firstly the mortgage. Balance @ the start in November 2015 was £144,000 (3.39% Fixed 2 years).
Balance as of June 2016 £141,390.44
Overpayments to date £64.10  (this needs to be worked on)
Gas and Electric. Really pleased to see we have managed to reduce it from last month.
April £157.86
May£89.96
So a saving of £67.90
So far in June we have spent £5.99
My DD is £136 (was £111 but has been increased from this month) but we will be in debit but not sure yet what as the bill hasn't been fully updated however once I know what it is I can see if I need to make another payment or if over the summer months we can get it into credit with just using less.0 -
Well done for cooking amongst the chaos. The end of school year is always manic with lots of extra expenses. DD2 is now doing Alevels (so thought most of that was behind me) and just had a request for party food that needs taking in!0

Hi EatingTheElephant yes it really is a busy time will be glad when it's all over with for another year lol
Up early today, DH is on an early so I got with him @ 5.15am. I have one load out on the line and another in the washing machine.
Chicken hot pot for dinner tonight. Planned to have that yesterday but ended up having an impromptu BBQ with friends which was good and I only spent £10 on bits and bobs as I had most of the stuff in anyway.
House is very quiet DS is still asleep (lucky him) and DD is at a friends. So plan is to spend some time looking at the bank account where I am sure my face will be :eek:0 -
Morning, just read your diary
Sounds like the house has been costing you quite a lot! Stick with the op's if you can though, are you able to make online payments? I found when I couldn't afford to op that paying 10p a day made me feel like I was still doing something , and of course keeping a diary is a great way to get support
MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0
