Nymphadora looking for a spell to cast my mortgage away

  • Hi wifet27 thanks for dropping in.

Still no letter from NW so still don't know the first mortgage payment but got the letter through with our life insurance details so can add that figure to my spreadsheet.

DH and I knew we would need a loan to do a lot of the work so we applied to our bank and within 5 minutes 20k was in my account.

Between this and the mortgage we are £160,000 in debt

In worst news my wages have been and gone, on what I'm not sure. DH paid tomorrow though so this will need to last, thankfully he has a good but of OT included.
  • Wow a full month since I was last on here.

I finally got online with the Nationwide to check our mortgage.

    1st payment has been taken.

Finances really tight after Christmas so may only make a small token over payment in January to the mortgage with the plan to make a bigger one in February.

New Loan and new car finance also need to have overpayments to them as well but haven't sorted online access for the car finance yet but that's on my list for today.

Today I plan to sit and do a full budget as we have got a lot of new direct debits set up for the new house.

Spends have been out of control and I really need to reign them in.

Kids have been told no more takeaways as I hate to think how much has been spent on them. The only exception to this will be when the new kitchen gets installed in February as I can' see how we will eat without a kitchen for a week (DH and his dad will be installing it to save £££, thankfully FIL is a joiner so it will be fitted well) but I will worry about that when we have an actual date for this.
  • Good luck Nymphadora
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Yesterday was a NSD so really pleased as I don't think I have had one of them in a long time lol.

Checked our budget and January is going to be hard and I didn't really think I would manage to OP anything to the mortgage but I forgot I have a save the change account and the bank round up all debit card transactions to the nearest pound and put the difference into an account. For December it is currently £46.25 so will use that and make a payment on the 1st January. It might end up being a wee bit more but I doubt it will be much as I don't plan any big spends between now and the 1st.

I think I will use the save the change to make an op every month to the car finance but I need to read the paperwork again to check op are allowed but I am sure it said they were.

Happy New Year everyone  Hope everyone had a good night.

Quiet night for us but that suits me. Normally have a takeaway on New Years eve but not this year we had a lovely meal using up the ham left over from Christmas.

Today will be a NSD and in even more exciting news I made our very first over payment to the mortgage :j:j:j
£46.53. Looking at our statement I think our daily interest charge is just over £13. If that's right then I have paid 3 days worth of interest.

Now roll on February so I can make another :rotfl:

Last day of the holidays here back to work tomorrow.

Postman brought a small chq from the electrical company who supplied our last property. £5.23 not a fortune but will get it cashed tomorrow and make another small overpayment.

A load of direct debits came out today and our account doesn't look healthy, will need to keep and eye on it, if need be I have some cash put away that can be used if it looks like we are heading into our overdraft.

Goodness me where has the time gone. Sadly our MFW journey ground to a halt before it even got started, this new house of ours is making us haemorrhage money.

We now have a fair bit of debt however a good amount of this is on 0% and should be gone in a year so MFW will need to take a back seat.

Organisation has gone out the window over the last few months but things are slowly getting back to normal and hopefully we can get back to paying off this debt and planning on getting shot of this mortgage.

Plan is to get OH doing some OT and to use that money to through at our debt.

I plan to be far more frugal with just about every aspect of our lives.

Starting with getting our food budget under control, I plan for £300 but lately that's been more like £600  which is frankly disgusting.

Aim for as many NSD as possible.

Our Gas and electric use has gone through the roof but we recently had a smart meter installed and this is great for keeping an eye on what we are using. Our DD a month was not touching what we were spending so that's been increased and I am hoping that over the summer months we will have cleared the debit amount we are in with British Gas.

Pay day tomorrow so will find some time to sit and get my head around next months budget.

Right off to make a list of the bare minimum we need at the shops, Dinner will be chicken stir fry and wraps as the wraps are dated today so need using up and I have chicken stripped from the roast on Sunday in the freezer so going to take that out.

Made some soup yesterday with some veg in the fridge that was needing used up and we had the chicken stir fry for dinner. I then started on a shopping list to do today but as usual an un expected visit from a friend and my plans went to pot.

So much so that we ended up with a takeaway because DS went to a sports night at the local centre (free) and since we only found out at the last minute it was on we were rushed, so £20 down on that.

DH back at work tomorrow though so hopefully I will get some peace to sort out the budget and food plan for the week.
