I've won once on facebook with saga after years of liking and sharing. I'm also thinking of giving up twitter and facebook. facebook especially just really annoys me with some of the comments. As said above, sob stories in particular. Now, though for me a huge peeve is what i call pimping out your children to win a prize. These are prizes that are nothing to do with kids. Not toys or nursery stuff etc. So to a prize for say a bottle of wine someone will post a picture of their children or baby and try and tie that in with the wine. Leaves me really uncomfortable and wondering is there nothing people won't use to win a comp. Star wars lego tons of pics of peoples babies in prams with a light sabre stuck in their hand. That sort of thing. I would never ever post a pic of my kids online full stop for strangers to gawp at and to do it to win a comp makes me cringe. Also for me fb and twitter take up a lot of time with comps and very little chance of winning so will probably stop soon and put them in the bin along with rafflecopter, blogs and gleam

  • I have never won anything on Twitter or Facebook, and I have setup dedicated comping pages on both, so I don't annoy all my friends/followers with constant shares and retweets. I only comment when its part of the competition, but only stuff like 'shared and liked' and copied text from the page. Maybe its the lazy comper in me, but I tend to only enter comps on FB when I just have to like and share, maybe that's why I have never won anything!!

    Good Luck
  • Hi Minizip, I have only recently set up a Facebook account so am not that familiar with their processes yet.
Would you be able to advise how to set up a dedicated FB page, is this still attached to your main account or completely separate?
Sorry if it seems obvious but I e tried to google it and just ended up confused 😒
    Thanks for any help

Alice came to a fork in the road. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat. "I don't know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

  • Hi there, I'm not sure if there is a thread on this already, I'm not entirely sure how to narrow down my search results.......but for FB comps I was wondering if it matters *who* you share the post with? For example you can share with "friends", "public" or "only me". Can the comp poster tell who you've shared it with? And can you only win if you've made the share "public"?

    Thanks everyone :)

Companies asking people to "Share" for a competition is against Facebook terms & conditions.

    3. Promotions may be administered on Pages or within apps on Facebook. Personal Timelines and friend connections must not be used to administer promotions (example: “share on your Timeline to enter” or “share on your friend's Timeline to get additional entries”, and "tag your friends in this post to enter" are not permitted).

You can also have your Facebook page closed down for excessive sharing, as many compers on MSE can vouch for

I have never ever shared any Facebook competition post - and have won many prizes from there (even when the company stated you must share)
  • Ahhhh that's really interesting, thank you!
