I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered before (I've had a long break from comping) but are these gushing posts or sob stories really needed to win competitions on facebook? I've read the twitter thread with interest and have decided to give twitter comps a miss from now on.
Has anybody on here won a facebook comp with a simple like and share? I actually hate facebook but have a page set up purely for entering competitions so I have no friends or anything else on it!
Its amazing how many competitions are FB and TW now. I wish there was a way of sorting through posts by method of entry.

I can't do sob stories. When I try I seize up with mortification for about five minutes, then it's 'nope' and move on.
And I don't win many FB comps, certainly nothing this year!0 -

There isn't and eventually plain web form entry will probably go the way of postal and nearly everything will require some form of social media (FB,TW,Pin etc) for the free brand exposure it generates0 -
I've never won with a generic like and share - although I rarely share so perhaps thats why! Usually a comment has won it for me (although no sob stories here - they make me cringe!!!)0

I cant do sob stories
It's like people are trying to out do each other
I find it impossible to divulge personal sob stories to people let alone all over social media.
I don't share either, just a quick like and a generic comment- how cute/lovely/fab the prize is or how I like the company...mention something about them like how they have a good ethos or something.2018 wins-12wins0 -
I've won several times and the most I post (unless answering a specific question) is a couple of relevant emojisI’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Competition Time, Site Feedback and Marriage, Relationships and Families boards. I've won a couple of things with a simple comment, I don't enter many though as I don't have the time to go back and check to see if I've won. Prefer twitter, I've had more luck on there, it's quicker to enter and you know if you win.Alice came to a fork in the road. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat. "I don't know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

Haven't won anything yet but I only like and share. If I have to comment, its either answering a question that they have asked or just to say something like "awesome prize, fingers crossed!"
It makes me cringe when people comment with sob stories. I'm pretty sure the winner is selected via random automated selection in most cases, not some guy or girl sitting there with a box of tissues looking for the saddest sob story they can find haha0 -
I don't do like & share because I don't want to fill my timeline with comps and anniy friends but about 2 weeks ago I started doing like and comment, normally a comment which is an answer to a question or a set comment (no sob stories).
In 2 weeks I have won from fb a peppa pig dvd, £50 cycle shop voucher & iron supplements, a pom bear toy, a diary and 10 lindt chocolate bears, maybe just been extremely lucky but will be keeping at them.
Oh rarely win on twitter, I think because I only use it for comps but won a hollister t-shirt this week.June Wins - Antandec travel mug0 -
I have won with just a like. Only last week I got my first win via the share button (they replied to my share post). I think the majority simply choose from the comments.
Also, a lot don't understand the meaning of the word random. You see so often 'winner will be selected randomly' then they post something like 'so many great entries, going to be really hard to choose a winner.' Why would it be 'hard' if it's random?
Comments definitely do help - as do photos. I find I win more when I add a photo to my comment. The sob stories, unfortunately, will work. Don't like them though. I tend to go for a little bit of humour.0 -
I can't stand sob stories, I couldn't exploit myself or anyone else just for a win. I have won a few comps on FB but mostly from the odd comment and thumbs up
I always share if asked but don't bother when they don't.
