Job application treated unfairly

Hi all,

Here is a brief overview of my situation

I applied for a job for a big it company. Almost had 11 interviewes and had to fly to us for final interview

I had to obtain visa to us which slowed me down and I had to wait 3 month for the visa

At the same time on my previous job i had to serve 90 days notice due to seniority of my role and not many buinesses wait that long for someone to start with them

So i handed my notice in and started to apply for jobs

It was close to end of my notice period which i had to apply for visa for us . I asked if they could conduct skype or any other interview as soon I would have been unemployed but they said no

So had no choise but to accept another job to support my family

Finally obtained visa and had final interview in us which was all good however they rejected my application based on the fact i have taken another job in short term and happy to walk away from it

They think i would do the same to them which is very silly

I am taking a pay cut to join them and have worked very hard to get there

I have challanged them through the recruiter and waiting on rep,y

I have worked for over 6 month to be rejected because they re not confident whether i will stay

Would an individual go through all that pain for nothing ??

What would you have done if you were me?

I am not desperate but very annoyed and feel i have been treated unfairly

As far as I can make out (unless I have missed something), you have given up one job before you have even got to interview stage for the "job of your dreams", which is pretty much reckless behaviour IMO.
Do you honestly think that you should be entitled to be given that job instead of the other candidates?
Maybe the moral of this story is - "Look before you leap".
  • You misunderstood

I was in job 1 for number of years and then decided to change job as there was no further progression

I served my 90 days notice and then applied for jobs

Came across my dream job while applying and this was half way into my notice so when reached the stage which wanted me to go to us , 1.i had no visa , 2. I would have soon be unemployed so had no choice but to find another

3 month later i did final interview

Would you have stayed unemployed for 3 month while waiting for visa and even then not sure if you could have the job ? No is the answer

If i was rejected on basis of competence i could have dealt with it but it is on a very silly matter of why i took another job. Should i have stayed unemployed for 3 month?

It is their progress that slowed me down so what was i suppose to do

So, in a nutshell you applied for a job and didn't get it. By all means email the CEO if you don't ever wish to work for them in the future. Nobody is entitled to get a job they apply for. I can quite see their point of view - you are applying for a job on less money, and you have demonstrated that you will walk away from a job you have just got if something better comes along. Why should they believe that you wouldn't do the same to them? I don't see anything unfair here - just something that you don't like.
  • OP you left your job with no other to go to. You took a risk, you didn't think through finances and all this company know is you left a job, took another for a very short time and were happy to walk out the second a better job came along.

Your risk backfired and your lack of thought and planning left you in a bad situation.

From the companies point of view it looks bad and you can't blame them because what else are they supposed to think? Even when you explain it all it doesn't look good.

I was on three month's notice at my last job and had to work the full notice period.

New employers should appreciate that they will have to wait for someone to serve their notice and three months is not unusual these days. I think you have been foolish in the extreme and have learned (I hope!) a very hard lesson.

    Sangie ,

I think you are ignorent and dumb and others that don't read the full history

I posted this thread to ask for advise not receive blam from some fools, excuse the language as this is referring to the odd replies

I was on 90 days notice and before deciding to quite , i applied for job for 6 month and had number of offers that needed me to start in 4 weeks so no 90 days isn't usual

I then decided to hand in notice and look for jobs again and it worked

I was so confident that i get a job within 3 month that i served my notice and i proved i could

I am earning 10k more now compared to the job i want so i am taking a pay cut by accepting that job!!

At the end if you are going to post a thread full of crap don't do it as i am annoyed enough as is .

I rather want some friendly advice and what i could do

Do you have a habit of overreacting OP? Because that's what you've done here, and in your dealings with the potential employer. Calm it down and look at how you can further sell yourself to the employer - not by contacting the CEO and certainly not by "challenging" them.

    Wow!

Well, first make a cup of tea. I appreciate this is very personal and frustrating for you, but if you want anyone to help you need to try and take it less personally.

Second, accept there is nothing you can do to force them to hire you. You may not think it's fair, or that they've understood, but unless it's a discrimination case - they can refuse to hire you because they didn't like your shoes.

Third - think about how you're approaching them. Again you can take this as a criticism (I can't stop you from doing that, even if I don't intend it).

Don't badger. Don't try and go over the recruiters head. The CEO will support the recruiters right to make recruitment decisions.

All you can do is try and convince them of your sincerity and your passion for this job.

I'd suggest asking to Skype - face to face would be better.

Explain why this is your dream job. Explain how you were upfront with your temp boss about why you were taking the job (I assume you were). If you can, ask them to give you a reference to show there was no hard feelings.

Be charming and open to their views, don't tell them they're wrong or just don't understand (stupid). Be gracious whatever the decision, and ask them to consider you for any future roles.

If this is really once in a lifetime - Make any offers (such as extended probation, short term salary cut, early exit penalties) that you wold consider and they might accept.

    Good luck.
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

You haven't been treated unfairly. They have not done anything unlawful. They have decided you are not committed, which they are perfectly entities to do.
In your position, contacting the CEO would be counter-productive. And in dealing with the recruiter, I hope you're using slightly more temperate language than you are in here, and not slinging threats about legal action around.
Whatever your reasons, it doesn't look good walking out of another job so quickly, and may even indicate to the employer a lack of planning and forethought which may be qualities they are looking for.
Concentrate on showing them you're a good bet and ask if there anything else you can do to convince them of your commitment.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

So you want people to lie and tell you they don't think you're to blame when that's not how it looks from what you posted?

People can and will give advice, but there's no use if you're just looking to blame others and attempt to force a company into hiring you by contacting the CEO or taking legal action.
I was on 90 days notice and before deciding to quite , i applied for job for 6 month and had number of offers that needed me to start in 4 weeks so no 90 days isn't usual

Yeah, you took a risk. That was your choice.
I am earning 10k more now compared to the job i want so i am taking a pay cut by accepting that job!!

So? That's your choice and has no effect whatsoever on any employer.
I rather want some friendly advice and what i could do

Then don't insult people because you don't like the answer and accept that the company think what you did looks bad and they have every right to think that.

Advice, if it's your dream job then contact them and tell them. Prove you're worth hiring and will stick around.

Tell them what you can do for them.

You can briefly and factually explain why you did what you did, but do not complain about a bad situation and don't blame others. They don't care about that and they're not going to take kindly to being blamed in any way.

In the end if they don't want to hire you after that then that's entirely their choice.
