I don't know whether this form still applies (perhaps others can help) but you can use this to apply for a refund.

you wont need another eye test.
ask the optician at tesco for a copy of the prescription and take it elsewhere

as a registered blind person, i am entitled to 1 free eye test per year, but i had cataract surgery and needed new glasses only 5 months after my previous test. the hospital then gave me an eye test and provided me with a prescription to take to any optician to fill.

i took it to supersavers with no problem at all

This seems very odd, as you are not obliged to buy glasses on the day of your test.

I have my eyes tested at an optician that does retinopathy tests (boots or Specsavers) then take my prescription (never not received a copy) to Asda, who are cheaper.

I too think you can only have one free test per year, unless there are special circumstances. (I visited the optician as I had abnormal floaters and both optician and eye hospital did full sight tests.)

The op has got the prescription to take anywhere he wants, but apparently has been told he can't use the free voucher(unclear if he has actually got it in his possession) because the voucher is dated 5 days after the test?

Is it a condition of the voucher that you have to have already have it before you have a free eye test?

You are only entitled to 1 free routine NHS eye test over a 2 year period.
  • Is it possible to have another test and then use the prescription from that one for glasses? You can pay for the test (Boots have them for £10 at the moment) but it'll be cheaper than paying for glasses without the voucher. Maybe someone knows if that'll work?

registered blind people are allowed a free eye test every year
  • I dont have a voucher towards the cost of glasses as the optician wont issue it to me because of the 5 day gap. The voucher HAS TO be issued by the optician who did the eye test.
I suppose the only option is to have another eye test elsewhere.
And, as i said earlier,my last 2 eye tests were free because of promotions by Specsavers and Tesco, so, in effect, i term them as having been paid for.

I don't know whether the £10 Boots eye test is available to anyone booking. It may need a voucher as there is one, for the offer , on their prescription bags.

FYI, there are a number of reasons why you might be entitled to more frequent ones - as nannytone has said, registered blind people get free yearly tests, as do I because of the history of glaucoma in my family.
