    Sure there is.............

There's the Grand-Place and the Parlamentarium
    Both worth a visit IMO

Well there's currently an armoured car there and soldiers and the Belgian Govt advised people to avoid city centre areas and most bars, restaurants and shops closed as a result.

I admit it looked a lovely square though on Sky News just now!

Belgium's Highest terror threat level has just been extended into tomorrow, so schools, the Metro etc will remain closed on Monday in Brussels. Lawyers etc are advised to work from home and the Foreign Office has updated their Travel Advice.

BBC News just spoke to a British tourist couple who stayed in their hotel this weekend and said that they felt scared, but it was good to see so many armed military personnel in the city centre.

Supposed to be going there next week...

Is there anything that can be done? I'm guessing most travel insurances won't allow you to do anything at the moment.

Out of interest, did the UK government advise not travelling to Paris when the attacks occurred last weekend?

No, they didn't. The chances of EU member states, especially Western European ones, issuing travel advisories against each other in such circumstances are slim. Therefore, insurance is unlikely to be an option unless things got a lot worse.

If you don't want to travel, goodwill gestures by travel providers in relation to cancellation / postponement are likely to be the best option.

Eurostar and some hotels are now allowing tourists with bookings for tomorrow to postpone/cancel, as no attractions are open in Brussels.

UK Government Travel Advice for Belgium - Updated 23/11/15

It basically remains the same, with the national threat level continuing at its highest level, very serious, for the Brussels region, indicating that the threat of a terrorist attack is serious and imminent. The Belgian government will review the threat level and the security measures regularly.

We are due to go to Bruge next Saturday.

Brugge is lovely :) I went for the Christmas market a few years back.

Not sure about the situations though, but it could happen anywhere I guess?
